Has anyone else had to have their manual transmission replaced?

I have a 2017 JCW that I bought as a demo with 4500 km back in September 2017. It has about 45,000 km on it now. A while ago I started having issues with second gear. It would grind and resist when putting it into second, or if you didn't have your foot on the gas while in second it would pop out of gear. Took it to the dealer a few weeks ago and they said I needed a new transmission. They needed approval from BMW to repair it under warranty, which was granted a few days later. The transmission was "backordered" but has arrived at the dealer and I'm scheduled to have it replaced on August 12 (earliest date they could give me a loaner).

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues?

Impressed that someone else in the world has a manual F54 JCW!

Mine is also a 2017 but only at 14,000km. But no transmission issues - other than 1st is a pain in the neck (nothing unusual from what I have read). I believe it is a Aisin gearbox used in the Lotus Evora and some Japanese high performance cars.

Please let us know the outcome.

I DID! It had issues with going into 2nd before the start of MTTS last summer. By the time we got back to St.Louis from the western leg of the trip I was getting occasional problems with third as well. Had a loaner hard top cooper for almost a month, and then finally got the clubbie back.

I have a manual JCW Clubman as well! They are a rare bird! I had issues with the long throw from 1st to 2nd but getting the Cravenspeed short throw shifter helped a ton.

Interesting. I got mine back with its new transmission yesterday. Dropped it off last Monday, could have picked it up Friday but the dealer is two hours away and couldn't get there. Could have probably picked it up Thursday but the dealer didn't have the correct transmission fluid. Very nice to have second gear back!

Very rare. In Canada dealers had very little stock of the 2019s and they're sold out now. Have only seen one or two used ones for sale as well.
