New Cold Air Intake or just drop in air filter?

Should I get a cold air intake or just a drop in air filter? (Interested in better sound)

And also any suggestions on ones to buy? ( Carb Approved pref.)

Thanks in advance!

*Meant to say "Drop" in air filter >.< *

If you're looking for more sound, aftermarket is the route you want to take. Your factory intake is already cold air, the same can't be said for most aftermarket intakes.

I have been running the same VIP Intake for 2 years now on both of my F56 and now in the F54 love it. Never had a problem with rough idle or engine lights coming on. Its a straight forward install and very easy to clean the filter.

Here is the a little write up from there site and the link if you are interested.

AIRVIP 4.5: VCP is the first to bring out a cool air intake system for the new Mini Clubman. The kit comes with a K&N high flow air filter. CNC machined intake tube , 304 stainless steel brackets, clamps and all hardware needed to let your Cooper breathe right. Laser cut and powder coated 6061 aluminum air box with removable top cover to access the filter for cleaning. The top cover keeps the cool air (which comes from the O.E.M. fresh air tube) trapped. Thus reducing intake temperatures.

I went through three intakes before I was happy with the quality. Afe and k&n were not good. Cravenspeed was good quality but the car drove different in a bad way with it and heatsoak was a problem. There honestly wasn't much noise and you couldn't hear it unless you had the windows down and radio off.

Im staying with the stock intake now, but the airvip from Vipcustomparts is probably one of the better designs.

I'd love to sell you an intake, but the numbers just aren't there so I'd just go with a drop in filter with no oil in it so it doesn't get in any sensors.

But if you do want an intake I've been installing the Afe lately and like it

Way, that kind of honesty goes a long way when purchasing needed items and remembering what a straight shooter you are. I know that kind of integrity speaks to you as an individual.

I wasn't looking for sound, I just wanted a little performance boost. I'm relating experience with an Audi A4, not a Mini, but I was amazed with the performance improvement that an "AEM" cloth aftermarket air filter provided. Low end performance was boosted considerably but it's not so noticeable at higher speeds. The AEM unit is also washable under a faucet.
