How can you tell the Dinan Elite Sports tuner is working?

Ok so I went to my Mini dealer to get the Dinan Elite Tuner installed and I was wondering if anyone knows how to tell if its working properly?

Is there any app I could check to see if its working to its full potential? '

This is very expensive and I don't want to waste money if its not working properly. Thanks in advance!

You should definitely feel it in the butt dyno. When i go to sport mode and view my “Technology in action” gauges on my center console I can now very easily peak my gauges (200+ hp) when i accelerate. Prior to the Dinan I could not get much past 180 hp.

Oh cool I forgot about that option on the center display, will try it when I go out tonight.

Also I just noticed the check engine light turned on, should I be worried? I just noticed it right now, but when I left the dealer it wasn't on at all..

Easiest way to determine if a Dinan is functioning properly is if you detect flashing red lights in your rear view mirror .

Seriously, if you get a CEL, have the installing dealer take a look ASAP.

+1 take it to them and see if the plug is snapped in all the way. If they take it off and clear the CEL and it still pops up then its another issue

They took off the dinan and the check engine light returned to normal. So pretty much they told me the dinan tuner was faulty. He told me to send it to dinan to fix it but I will actually return it to ECS and try to get it replaced with a new one that works. Thanks for the responses guys.

This may or may not be the case. It is possible that some stuff needs to be cleared from the ECU. Check out this thread for reference, if you need to dig further: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...cel-p12a9.html

Also double check that the unit is the correct model for your car. Bringing a Dinan unit to the dealer to install doesn't make much sense. You'd be better off having it done by a Dinan authorized dealer if you didn't want to do it yourself as they would have to make it work without you getting in the middle of the hassle.

ECS is pretty good so I assume they will fix it for you.

Thats exactly why I'm going to have my mini/dinan dealer install mine. Yeah it costs a bit extra but I don't want to deal with any issues.

Thanks, I called yesterday about an exchange for a new unit that works, they told me to email them my VIN number and now I'm still waiting on a response.

Just a quick update... I got the replacement the next day after I shipped the old one. Thanks for your guys fast service!

I just had one question, I'm trying to register it for the warranty with dinan and on the paper its asking for the "Wiring Harness Serial Number".

Any idea where I can find that number? I only see the MAC address and the production date on the tuner. Thanks in advance.

"On the DINANTRONICS ECU is a white identification label which displays the MAC address of this ECU. The MAC address is a series of 16 letters & numbers. Take note of the MAC address, as it will be needed to register your ECU with Dinan."
