No non CF planned for right now. Carbon Fiber is their thing as well as carbon accents. If something else comes out I will let you guys know.

Greetings! Just joined today, this was the first thread I read (yes, I hate non functional scoops too!)...and am curious as to the progress so far and the availability to purchase the system as a kit.

 

Hey everyone, I’m with everyone else on this feed about having a non-functioning hood scoop. The ECS CF scoop is really nice looking, but the cost is way too much, especially for us Canadians.

Any update on this *****?

Time flies and definitely gets away from us!

An update on this project, I heard the concerns for rain, snow, bugs, and everything else. The system was installed on my 2017 Clubman S for 18 months with some excellent testing in heavy rains and plenty of Minnesota snow. During the 18K miles, I frequently checked the airbox for standing water during wet trips and I never saw any pooling occur. Besides collecting a few more bugs I did not experience any negative side effects.

I traded my '17 in about 2 months ago on a 2020 Clubman JCW, I am installing the hood scoop this week.

Sorry for the massive delay on reporting results, if there is enough interest perhaps we could find a distributor on this forum who would be interested in providing this product?

 

I wish for a smooth fake scoop replacement so that I wouldn't have to clean the useless inefficient thing all the time.

cool to hear that you did make it to a final prototype! While I would be interested in this, I don’t know if a vendor would be. Eventuri now sells a much more affordable plastic version of their intake and scoop. That may take the wind out of the sales of a competing product. But in the other hand, your design is much simpler and maybe could be made into a lower cost product, without the extra work required for the intake, cone filter and carbon fiber scoop that’s just dress up.

 

I would be interested, I would love to be able to utilize the hood scoop since its there.

 

Any pictures of the development prototype to “motivate” us? I’m still undecided!!

 

This is an awesome project! Thanks for all of the hard work and diligence, @CPWillys ! I'd be very interested in one of these as well! Even the plastic version of the eventuri is waaaay overpriced at about 1k when you're all said and done. Then you're also forced to buy their filters too, c'mon man! So a one and done simple and affordable solution sounds perfect for me.

As a side note, an easy way to demonstrate performance gains would be to use a dragy. It's way more affordable than having to keep hitting a dyno, especially during your early testing. It you can show improvements on 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, I'm sure that will bring along some buyers.

CPWillys- It sounds like there is a market for these if you can produce them and sell them for less than the cost of the eventuri....just sayin....I might be interested as well.

While the Eventuri intake makes the scoop functional, I believe it’s biggest advantage comes from the wide open smooth intake path to the turbo, not the actual scoop. That Leap Works intake piece fails to address the small transition from the cold air duct into the stock filter box. The stock cold air duct pulls already from a nice cool location. Adding a scoop duct isn’t going to help that much for air if you are still keeping the stock filter box.

 

For anyone interested in the eolian for F54s, I spoke with them today. They believe it fits and will ship it to you and accept returns if it does not fit or does not meet expectations.

A few Discoveries killed this project for me:

• After I purchased my 2020 refreshed Mini I realized the design intake design changed
  • Would need to invest a bunch of time.
• No obvious improvement in performance
  • There are a number of better investments to be made to improve performance
• The cost/price equation wasn't working out for our manufacturing method.
  • Pricing below $1,200 would be difficult to manage
• Relatively small audience, ~20 kits per year?

CPWillys Stu-mon here, is that a Leapworks scoop ? got one about to paint & install. how did you get the center bonnet post out ? screw out the center & how do the 4 prongs dealt with ?

 

Gonna revive this thread again to ask if I can purchase the prototype off of you, if you still have it. I'd love to have it on my '18 Clubman.
