How do you determine that a vibration damper has gone bad?

The rubber has come loose from the cast piece which now spins freely.

I can only think if that piece is missing you'll probably just get a little bit more drivetrain noise, but might not be enough to notice.

Yep, seen those on other cars, first time for MINI. On Rover they are for off road so the frame does not create vibration. Some people remove them and they weigh about 50 pounds each on a rover

#6 does the same thing on the end near the wheel.

People on the BMW side complain about noises and its reduces noise by the tone or HZ

So removed you might get noises.

When intact, its a "harmonic vibration" damper.
Easier for BMW to install those than redesign the crossmembers.

yeah I’m not concerned about noise, just making sure it won’t cause premature drivetrain wear or failure.

Would love to shed the pounds and stop replacing this 35khz damper.

Understand, the vibration causes the noise. Like a violin string vibration makes noise. So will the crossmember.
Will that vibration cause cracking, time will tell.
