Cannaught Green vs. BRG
Can someone explain the differences between Cannaught Green and British Racing Green? I understand Cannaught is non-metallic. From the new videos of the WC50 on motoringfile.com the Cannaught looks just like brg to me. Anyone have side-by-side photos or color swatches? Thanks. -d

I've noticed a number of people wondering about the difference between the Connaught Green and British racing green. This is actually a very interesting question because depending on how you look at things, they are really one and the same, same color that is. Connaught green (named after Connaught Engineering of the 50’s) is actually the true classic British Racing Green.
Years ago, back before the advent of commercial sponsorships in the late 60’s, auto race teams would paint their cars according to the assigned national auto racing color livery. Organized international racing adhered to a set of national motor racing colors. Great Britain or the UK was assigned green. Think back to the Jaguar D type, Lotus, Cooper, and the BRMs. They were all green and the color became referred to as British Racing Green.
Other countries have had their assigned colors become attached to their nationalities as well. When you think of Italy of course you think Rosso Corsa or Racing Red. Hence we have the Ferraris, Alfas, Lambo, and Maserati's always look just right in red. France was Bleu de France as in French Blue of Renault, Peugeot, and Bugatti. The USA used a white car body with blue stripes, remember the Shelbys, Chapparels, Cunninghams, Corvette.
Germany was originally assigned White but most of their teams went without paint and just polished the aluminum body skin to a high luster which gave them a silver appearance. Think of the awesome Auto Union Silver Arrows the 30's, the famous Mercedes 300r's of the and the Porsches 550s of the 50’s & 60’s. Porsche was maybe the one German company that embraced the original white in much of their venture with the 908 series of cars in the late 60’s.
Back then there were no metallic paints. The metallic green we see today as BRG is a green color that was kind of reintroduced by Jaguar when they reentered formula one competition in 2000. So they are both BRG’s but the “Connaught Green” is really the true BRG.

BRG ll: I, almost ordered that color with the Chili Red roof and all, but back off in the end. Wife, you know. Still kind of wish that I had gone that way as I know there NOT be many JCW's with that combination anywhere. Not that it doesn't look good, but it takes nerve to combine Chili Red and BRG. Oh well, have to settle for the Midnight Black and Red.

We go into Chicago to pick up the Lil Guy tomorrow, 3:00 pm to be exact, not that I'm excited about it or anything. You can check the signature and you'll find pretty much, what I ordered on it. No sunroof.

Connaught is closer to real(some say it is the real) BRG. BRG Mini's are too light in color and of course have metal flake... Not what any of the original Minis, Lotus', etc. used. Connaught is a bit darker than what I think of when I pictue BRG...at least based on the one car I saw in the UK earlier this year.
My '91 Miata is Mazda's flavor of BRG and I think it's perfect!
Color code "HU" if you want to pick up a sample...
