When you go next year, and if you take another Garmin Forerunner 405 with you, do two things:

1. Change the settings, so that it records the location every second. The default setting uses some sort of algorithm to plot locations less often, which saves battery but throws the track off some.

2. Bring along a cigarette adapter that has a USB plug, and keep the Garmin plugged in while in use. This will off-set the battery drain of the different setting.

Here's a sample GE file I whipped up today, that pretty clearly shows the difference. Plotting every second is the way to go, and I tested out using the garmin while charging and it worked like a charm.

 

It's not the Alps, but this looked nice.
