I'd like to put the illuminated door sills on my aero side skirts. The accessory catalog says this is possible, but my dealer says it isn't. But my dealer doesn't know crap. Has anyone done this? Could I see some results? (i know they offer a simple matte 'aero kit' sill, but I'm talking about the larger illuminated ones)

I just switched to an Aero Kit and I don't see how you could do this. The standard sills have a recess for ths sills that the wiring would run through.The sills would have to affix to the top of the door sill which means that the door would rub on them everytime you opened and closed it. Doesn't mean that it would be impossible though.

 

The JCW catalog (available at the dealer) has a picture of an illuminated sill on an aero side skirt. The installation instructions are the same for standard and aero side skirts: drill a hole for the wire and stick the sill on. There is plenty of clearance between the door and the side skirt.

 

Are there pictures of these? I never knew these were available, and remember seeing some on ebay a long time ago, and wondered how they were 'OEM'. Now I know!

I didn't think of looking there earlier, but they also have the photo of the JCW version on an aero skirt. Click this thumbnail to see a huge photo. The JCW version is listed at a cool $452 MSRP. I think someone on NAM also purchased and posted photos of a custom logo (an option available through MINI).

They definitely work with the aero kit - you just have to measure and align it carefully. There's no rubbing contact at all.

 

I had them on mine till they failed 06 MCS with aero and MINI illuminated door sills. Like the guy above said, drill carefully, align, no problem

 

Do you mean the light failed, or something else?

 

I have the JCW Door Sills and they look great..
