Give me a brake light kit installed today

I just finished installing the "Give Me A Brake Light" kit, works and looks great, the extra brake light is awesome and gets your attention. It's a great safety mod.

The installation for both sides took about 15 minutes. It took me 5 minutes to figure out how to take off the first tail light plug, once I figured it out, the other side was done in 2 minutes. However, I should have been done in 10 minutes. One side didn't work because I didn't press the contacts of the quick splice far enough to make contact with the wire. Installation tip: depress the contact before closing the flap. I depressed the contact and closed the flap at the same time.

I'm trying to install a 3rd Barke Light Pulsar kit in my 2006 MC today. I got the 3 screws that hold the light unit to the top of the hatch out ok and have the light unit loose, but I can't seen to get the unit out past the "spoiler". I know that there must be a way to do it, but I haven't found it yet. Any hints? I worked on it until I got too cold to try anymore (at least I have a garage to work in - it's snowing pretty hard here today!). Should I try to get the top out first or the bottom? HELP!!

If you are doing this to a Cooper, you need to loosen the bolts to the spoiler on the outside edge of the spoiler. After removing the nuts it will help to have someone gently push the spoiler up from the center, this will provide clearance for the light to come out.

I didn't have to loosen the spoiler bolts for my 2006 MCS, I was able to pull the light without major issue.

The spoiler on the Cooper is different and does not have the same clearance for the light the the 'S' has. Even the dealer has problems with the light on the Cooper.

Ah, I haven't worked on the Cooper. Thanks for pointing out the difference.

I just installed mine.
This is how it almost went in, but I thought the loose Pulsar unit would rattle every time I closed the boot.

(No comments on dirty car, cinders still everywhere)

I used the trusty Dremel to hack away some of the black housing to make room for the Pulsar, and used the foam tape to stick it on. I almost cut the black plug end too short!


And it worked the first time. There's hope for me yet.

Pulsar brake light

89AKurt ~

Thanks for the photos you added on your post. It helps a lot to actually "see" the installation. Hopefully between my husband and I, we'll be able to install the Pulsar brake light on my '06 Mini Cooper S with no problems.

I have a rear fog light that I'd like to change to a brake light. I wonder how difficult that would be?

Glad to help. Nothing more frustrating reading instructions with alleged pictures drawn by a kindergardener.

I'm mechanically and electrically challenged, don't know about converting the fog light, but my car was already converted.

I just got mine in and had the same problem mentioned above with mine being a MC and not having clearance. I went the opposite direction took the rubber cover off the wires going into the roof from the boot found the proper black hot wire and the red wire cut and spliced in a second set of six inch long wires and then was able to put the circuit card inside the roof thru the access cover then resealed the access cover by snapping it back into place. Total time was 30 minutes if anyone else does this watch that polarity make sure it is correct. Awesome product time to motor..
