yup...a year and half ago I installed a $35 audiovox alarm that uses voltage drop to set it off....if a door is opened and light comes on it sets it off....also has adjustible vibration/shock sensor...no motion sensor but hey, it was only $35 and I was able to easily install it myself....the only problem I see with it is it means an extra FOB on my key ring, but it is much smaller than our LARGE key
note: on other threads elsewhere it has been mentioned, and verified, that holding the key up to one's chin will extend the range of the remote.....that works, and it also works with my alarm FOB, as it more that triples the range

where does the OEM horn get installed? I found darn little room to put the little audiovoxx unit...I installed mine as high up as I could right in the middle below the windshield vents, in a plastic piece right behind(actually towards the rear of the car) the engine
Alarm Wiring
The early MINI's did not come with the alarm wiring installed, it was part of the kit, and had to be put in along with the alarm, hence the 4 hrs and install price quote of $500. As of present, all MINI's have the wiring pre-installed, nd the alarm installation consists of simply plugging in the modules, and then having the system coded to recognize the alarm.
