2004 MC Tail Lights

I have a blown tail light on my '04 and never worked on a car before. My questions are:
  1. Can I just replace the bulb or do I have to do the entire assembly?
  2. If I can replace the bulb, what kind is it (part number, model, etc.)
  3. How do I do the replacement? (bulb/assembly)
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure if you have the parts, but if not, Morristown Mini offers discounted prices on factory parts so you might want to give them a call, 973-451-0009, or check out their website http://morristownmini.com/Department-Parts.aspx

Sorry, but I haven't taken a tail light apart in a Mini, but if it's anything like my wife's BMW, it should be easy.

Good luck.

Just the bulb. You have to open the little compartment door in the boot area. Look inside with a flashlight, and you'll see that there is a flat, assembly attached to the back of the light housing. It should also have the taillamp wires coming from it. Look at this assembly and find the clip. Once you depress the clip, it will pull out from the housing and you can change the bulb.

Thanks guys. Turns out that I have an open in my brake light socket (tail light is fine). Any ideas on how to trace that?
