Aux Input

I had my local dealership install the AUX Input for the stereo so I could use my Ipod & portable XM Radio.. Worked great 1st day. 2nd day you could get the stereo to go to AUX and then it would switch right back to FM...
Took car back and they installed a new AUX input...same issue...1st day great 2nd will not stay in AUX mode.....Any thoughts?

Yes, next time install it yourself ...seriously though...they have DIY on MotoringFile that takes no less then 5 minutes. Honestly, you should start bitching (...exaggerating...) at the dealer (since it's the 2nd time happening), this sounds like a headunit issue more than the AUX input and it would make sense if you bought the input from the dealer themselves, but then again they can make mistakes too and screw up the connection. Good luck. Wish i can help .

Aux Input

I called them today and they told me that it must be the head unit. They will replace it tomorrow. I asked for them to refund the price for the AUX Input and sell me an Ipod connection and install it for free since I have had to make two trips for this.. They said ok..

Do a serch for GLI, you need to isolate the griund loop, this happens with many audio devices, esp. those being powered by the car, the ground completes the cicuit and the head unit thinks the AUX is no longer plugged in. You can pick one up for $10 at best buy (and will need an adaptor); or order one online that comes with the 1/8" for about $20; there are several threads going already with more info.

I'm amazed that MINIUSA isnot aware of this. Wonder how many head units have been friviously replaced?

They said ok...goooood, glad to hear that, it's such a waste when dealing with electronics in the car. Motor on is right about what he said with the whole "ground" issue, so if you have a chance, ask the dealership about it and see with they say. Happy Motoring and Welcome to NAM!! BTW get yourself out of neutral by introducing yourself in the "1st Gear" forum...
