Sunroof question

Is there anyway to make the sunroof completely closed instead of just stay tilted when closing it? I found it kind of annoying having to press the button two times everytime I want to close the sunroof. Its a stupid design!

I think the two step process is actually a safety feature to keep fingers caught in the closing SR. It forces the user the take a second step to close the SR. My Toyota LandCruiser had the same two step process.

Thank,
Ed

I agree, checkmate. Seems silly to have a 'one touch closing' sunroof that requires two touches.
I've heard the 'safety feature' line before, but I don't get it - the sunroof has already moved forward all the way (no safety there), and the odds of someone shoving their hands up over the back sunroof would be minimal, I'd venture.

Overactive US lawyers, or BMW engineers? Is the process the same in non-US countries?

I don't believe about the safty reason, since my 02 325Ci can do a 1-touch closing... and all newer bimmer did the same. It is pretty annoying not having that 1-touch closing feature.

[just a guess!]
It is possible that the motor current limit is lower for most of the travel back from open to closed - if it hit something during this phase it would stop.
But for the last bit where it actually closes, it is necessary for the motor to have more current to fully force itself closed/sealed. In that case, it would not stop if it hit something.

may need to cut back on the coffee if something as small at that upsets you so much. So you have to push it twice. It's not as though it's physically or mentally taxing. Well not physically taxing any way.

Sun Roof closing

Hmm,, I consider the two touch closing a very convienent FEATURE.

When motoring along and the noise gets unbearable as the speed increases, I just do the one touch, and the roof slides to the tilt position, providing ventilation with out as much noise.

Similarly if you push the switch "up" when the window is closed, it opens to the tilt position and stops. If you slide the switch to the rear it does a full open.

The thing is if they design the button to be pushed once for all the way open, then they should make it the same way for all the way close. Otherwise, they should make you keep pushing to your desired position instead of creating the "one touch" function. I just think it defeats the whole purpose of "one touching".

It's a safety "non-feature". Just like the non-one touch closing windows (Ian has a neat fix for that), and fact that you can't close all windows/sunroof via remote transmitter.

Ian Cull makes a "double click" express up module. www.gbmini.net

Stupid question but does the rear window on the sunroof open? At least tilt?

Curious... Looks like it might be able to just don't know how to do it

I was disappointed to find out it doesn't. Seems like there would be room, and it would be great for venting when driving with the windows open. Alternatively, it would be great if the rear side windows opened out for venting a bit like on the old VWs and on some minivans.

The rear SR does not open. I don't think there would be room with the front one in the open Position (or it would be tight). I agree on that it seems kindof useless there, but my wife commented it gives the rear passengers (kids in my case) a more open feeling.

On the rear windows pivoting, I also agree this w/b a nice feature. However the full wrap around design of the MINI probably prevents this. I personnally like the look of the pillars hidden behind the glass, so I am ok with it.

On the SR closure, this 1 touch closure function exists because the key remote closure module i just installed fully closes the SR (and both windows). Just need a genius (hey IAN!!!) to figure out how to tap into it. Not to belabor the point, but they are not concerned about your head, but little fingers which often get crushed. I have almost had my fingers pinched a couple of times because my driving wife decided to rollup the window for me ( but that is another story). I also like the way it is designed, but everybody has different opinions (just like in Waxes/sealants ).....

Same. I like it. I'd hate one touch close if I wanted it cracked a bit. And usually when I'm closing it, it's because of noise or rain, and thus I'd still want it cracked.

If it's because I'm getting out of the vehicle, I'll leave it open, and just use my key to close it.

Wagnbat,
You might be interested in the Remote Closer for Windows and SR. Check out the thread https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=55492.
I installed mine about a month ago and love it. I thought the key closure was a hassle and this module fit the bill and works really well. I live in Phoenix and the only time the SR is closed is when I am not in the car....

Motor On,
