Electrical iPod or SIRIUS but not both?
iPod or SIRIUS but not both?
I've got the HK head unit and had the Sirius radio installed. Got tired of playing my iPod through the aux port and bought the factory iPod interface and installed it according to the directions. Works fine. Howsomever, in the section of the instructions that I didn't read it says that the iPod interface isn't compatible with the Sirius interface.
Which is true. The Sirius radio apparently still operates in the sense that it will display in the HK station window and I can select streams on the Sirius radio; there's just no output.
Hmm, sez I. I'll bet it has to do with the little white plastic plug-n-wires that 'are not used in this application' according to the iPod install instructions and are replaced with a different little white plastic plug-n-wires.
Anybody out there that's more attuned to wiring than I am (which would pretty much include anybody out there including a wide variety of household pets and some cleaning appliances) run into this and have a fix?
Seems like it ought to be possible to somehow tie the output from the Sirius radio to the output from the iPod and have whichever one of them is hot at the time feed the amplifier. But then, as I have tried to indicate, I don't know squat about electrics other than to try really hard not to let the smoke out of the wires.
Thanks.

Two suggestions...
One is to look at those wires that are "not used in this application" as you say, and see if there is a way to connect one of them to the Sirius radio tuner in your boot. The MINI Sirius tuner actually has a pass-through on it for the CD Changer. If one of those wires that you speak of fits in that pass through you may be ok.
Suggestion two is the Dension ICELink+. I know it's kludgy and a bit of a pain, but the sound quality is quite good, and it CAN be used with the MINI Sirius tuner if you use the version the connects to the CD changer wiring in the boot. That's the setup I'm using, it will require the purchase of a passthrough cable that you can get from your dealer (or Classic MINI) the part number for it is listed in the documentation that comes with the ICELink....
A minor heads up, connecting to the CD Changer means that it's not possible to use a CD Changer if you have one, or to add one at a later date. Of course most people with either Sirius or an iPod (or both) aren't interested in adding a CD Changer as well... but just in case.
