this will help get yo ustarted
after yo uget that off...the rest is all torx bits just look at the bottom of the dash and you'll see them it's pretty easy...they are all right there...you have to open the driver side panel under the steering wheel too...just pull down...the pieces pop off pretty nicely...just little clips...I'll be putting one back together this week hopfully so I'll try to remember to take pics...

Sorry,
what I meant by dashboard fascia is the plastic bits (silver on coopers and alloy patina on Cooper S) that covers the airbag. I dont think I need to do that big of a job to remove these. If they arent called "dashboard fascia" then it's my bad. But thanks for the link. It maybe useful for my future projects

that was what I was getting at...the top has to come off for you to get the air bag cover off...

I have painted about 6 or so dashes...and various Mini bits now...belive me...it's not as bad as it looks...that top dash piece comes out real easy...then allowing you to get to the bolts that you will need to take out for the air bag cover...

oh and you will also need to take the Tach off to get the cover behind there out...

on an 05 you do not need to remove the dash top to remove the silver parts. everything unclips and there are two torx screws on the speedo cluster.
