Electrical R52 Battery Drain - trunk closed
R52 Battery Drain - trunk closed
Hi, working on my 2005 Cooper convertible JCW, tracing out a very frustrating parasitic drain issue. I've narrowed it down to simply closing the trunk lid (verifying the closure switch is activated and trunk light goes out). If I leave the lid open and clamp the switch manually, the drain does not occur. On the other hand, closing the lid causes the drain to kick back in.
I'm thinking the ECU is mis-handling the system shutdown, or perhaps a drain on the rear door locking mechanism? Any/all thoughts would be appreciated!

If the same latch mech as the hatch back, I had to fix one that wouldn’t consistently shut off. Worked when triggered manually but 8n car was spotty.
disassembled and discovered I could remove motor from the assembly and it would suddenly work fine, but with, it didn’t, ran some contact cleaner thru the motor and flushed it out while spinning it to remove build up, dirt etc, reinstalled and thence all was well.
