... neither with the handle I think the actuator is damaged but I took it out and tried to make it function by connecting it directly to the battery, I can feel very slight internal vibration but not enough to activate the plunger. Not sure if the actuator is the issue or there is not power getting to the connector wires,

Ive had issues with the wires running through the rubber conduit thing getting broken over time (constant flexing or getting pinched as the trunk closes?) I effected a crude fix by soldering in a bypass wire after splitting the rubber to access the wires. I would say that f you can feed power to the actuator directly and it activates then its a problem with the wiring, if it doesnt its the actuator.
This is the classier way to do it...
