R57 mini convertible roof not functioning

mini convertible roof not functioning
My 2013 roof would not close, so I closed it manually. Took it to the dealer and they told me the roof locks were siezed. (Not sure how a vehicle this new can be seized) the fix would be about $5,000, they wanted to replace the entire interior stucture part# S4342758076. I told them to forget it and brought the car home. The rear truck does not open probably linked to the top. I attached a string to the emergency door opener so i can be opened from inside the car. Does anyone have experience with this issue?? The warning chime is annoying. Is there anyway to shut this off??

Unsure if this will help, but it worked for me when I bought my '11. Have you replaced the battery or disconnected battery for an extended time? Try this....cycle the windows up and down 3 times, then try the convertible top switch. Be sure the rear tray is mounted correctly and the trunk is closed.

Observe the previous post with good suggestions on troubleshooting then examine the suggestion from the dealership. Instead of finding a problem, they want to replace the entire system. THAT is why you want to locate a good BMW/MINI independent shop in you area. I'm not sure about the R57, but the R52 has two button switches. The first is under the foot of the cargo tray. The second is in the upper left corner of the boot hatch frame. That particular switch has a very short throw. I solved the problem by sticking a chair leg felt to the opposite side of the hatch which pushes the button in further...my problem solved. Maybe yours too.

Thanks for the reply. I tried cycling the windows 3 times then tried opening the top. No luck. I've done nothing to the battery. Put it on a tender this AM. The rear trunk was closed and the rear tray is mounted correctly. The windows came down during this cycle but no movement on the roof. Is there something else that needs to be done once the roof was closed manually. I turned the screw for the pump in 1.5 turns since this was backed out when I put the top up manually.

window reset
I'm glad google brought me to this thread. I forgot to leave my R57 on a trickle charger over the winter and the battery was dead enough that I needed to jump start it. Everything seemed to be in working order until my dog wanted to go for a ride with the top down. The sunroof opened, the windows worked, but not the convertible top. there was no warning (like the stupid button in the boot not being pressed) but the LATCHES would not even release. So while driving, I tried and even got the warning that I was going too fast for the top to open. So I slowed below 15mph and nothing. this was disturbing. Figured it wasn't a fuse since the sunroof part worked.
THEN I did the window thing. I figured it was going to be a total waste of time (seriously, why would it work) and VOILA!!! It worked like a charm!!!
Thank you smart people for putting this in the thread. It saved me a lot of grief!!!
