Electrical Oil pressure at idle?
Oil pressure at idle?
hello, I know there are a couple threads on this but they seem a little generic.
My issue is that I just installed a prosport JDM oil pressure gauge and when the car is warm it reads 55-60 psi which seems a little high I would think.
Now I just installed a base map tune from RMW and my idle is a little higher than stock, it sits just at about 1050-1100 rpm at idle when warm. I also have other mods listed below in my signature.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Well... As an old school rule oil pressure should be 10 Psi for every 1k RPM.
However higher pressures at idle are not a problem.
Given the oil pump pressure solenoid I guess the DME/ECU can vary pump pressure on demand.
I'd think it would be easier to engineer a VANOS system knowing you always have good pressure at low rpms.
Also the computer can demand oil pressure if needed..

i mean, we are talking about a $45 gauge here. those senders are not terribly accurate: its literally a diaphragm that pushes a tiny lever up and down a coil of wire which creates more / less resistance which is then interpreted by the gauge itself. so there will be tolerances in the sender, then again in the gauge.
also, just because the car is "warm" does not mean the OIL is warmed up. the engine heats to operating temps much faster than the oil will, i know since i have both oil pressure and oil temp gauges side by side. 55-60 sounds "normal" for initial start up, and the first bit of running, but it should drop to less than 10 after everything is hot. heck ive seen at idle when its all hot only maybe 2psi (according to the gauge). again, i dont freak out because of the tolerances in the gauge and the sender.

It's actually a $120 gauge, it's not the bottom of the line $50 gauge. So would expect more from this one.
I've been emailing Kyle at prosport he thinks the sender is reading wrong, but I have to send the whole kit back! Gauge, sender and wiring. What a PITA!
Thanks for the input guys!
