Jcw sport gauge wiring instructions wrong ?

I got the temp , boost jcw sport gauge kit for my birthday and was in stalling it in my jcw gp2 and the wiring instructions gives you what pins to take out of plug but the paper and the actual plug wires colors are completely diff. Paper says to take out pins 1,2,3,4 but there is no wire in pin three. So now I'm completely lost and was hoping someone can chime in on this. Kinda sucks having the guages set up but not working. The instructions are from motoring file and for the past five hours every website has the same instruction

Yea that's the one I saw .e just keeps saying read the instructions . I noticed the video said 07-12. All three of our minis have the same plug minus pin 3 . All Coles match but the instructions one do not the plug wire color. They sell the guages for the 2013 models so I'm confused on why there is no instructions for it. I wished that video showed more

Was confused to see your enquiry in the 1st Generation Section. But if it was about the new JCW GP2, then maybe I have some advice. I have the GP2 as well and I just had the Relative Torque and Water Temp Gauges installed in my car. I had it installed at the dealer and they took a few days to figure it out. Basically, what they said was, the instructions provided by MINI were wrong. In fact, the instructions simply don't apply to 2013 JCWs for some reason (they have had the same situation earlier on this year too). So that's why they took a while to figure it out with my car and the gauges work perfectly fine now (I know cuz I had these gauges in my previous 2009 R56 S too). I suggest you bring it back to MINI for the installation. Hope that helps!

Not just because of 2013 MINI, I think it's due to they change in engine for 2013 JCW and maybe they had different wirings. The 2013 JCWs now have valvetronics like the rest of the models.

But yeah, let the dealers figure it out. And having it installed at the dealer gives you warranty on the parts and labour for as long as your new car warranty. I don't see why you would want to mess with these electronics yourself just to save a few hundred bucks only to risk bigger problems.

Thanks for the advice guys. After not seeing the wires the same color as instruction and no pin 3 we started to look at the other minis. Me and my wife have the gp2 and a 13 countryman S. my brother in law has a 13 mcs and all of them have same wire colors and no pin 3. So I will deff be going to dealer with this and look when they are done and what wires went where for someone who Dosent have the extra money to get it done.

Im in the same situation with my 2013 mcs .hooking it up is pretty basic for me.i do most my own work.being this is an oem part im also not worried about it messing up the car as long as it done correct. hey akng im glad you got the dealer to do it . now is there any chance you would want to pop a couple panels off and check their connections for us. it would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know how I move this over to the 2nd generation section or do I have to write a whole new post. Seems like there will be more and more people with the same problem.

Did you get the dealer to successfully install the gauges? If so, did you happen to look under the dash and see how they did it? My 2013 MCS is hanging out in the garage lifeless untill I can get the wiring figured out for this.

Thanks!

Erik

I figured it out. The problem was my own stupidity. For all future DIYers of the gauges, in section 6 the X1880 plug that is mentioned is NOT the plug that connects to the tachometer, instead it is an identical plug that goes all the way up underneath the steering column and plugs in right behind the steering wheel.
