Coding for new 12v battery

Sigh.. i searched. I started my car this morn and my trip and time / date were all zeros and dashes..

Does NCSexpert allow for coding for battery replacment or am I enslaved to the dealership to let the car know it has a new battery?

Go down to auto zone or O'rielys and have them put in a new battery then drive home after resetting your clock.

UMMM.. i have been told by the dealer and other threads on here that the ecm needs to know there is a new battery or else it will over charge it.

Think you can do it with tool32. Search for register battery and you should find the instructions

No to start an argument, but this has been the subject of many threads. Many members have changed their battery with 0 issues except for the radio presets and clock.

What Bram said. Changing a battery is normal wear and tear maintenance. There's nothing hocus pocus about it. The only thing to pay close attention to is hooking up the little vent tube. You need to remove the wee nozzle from the old battery and stick into the new one then hook up the vent hose. It ain't rocket surgery.

Frankly if you have an IBS and access to the software/hardware to register the new battery then you may as well do it. It's what BMW/MINI say needs to be done, so why not do it?

I know in the UK the right battery is going to cost me around £135 supplied. If registering it prolongs its life then I think I can spare five minutes to do that

If it seems that big of an issue then why not clip on a maintainer in parallel to the battery cables and swap it out then. The car will never be the wiser. If you don't have one, somebody in the neighborhood does.

It's nothing to do with the car losing power when you take it out. It's to do with the car adapting the charge rates of the battery due to its age/mileage. Registering the new battery lets the car know to charge it differently, if you don't do it then chances are your new battery will be over/undercharged and not last as long as well as preventing unnecessary wear on the alternator.

Some reading material https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ment-help.html

So some do it and some don't.
