Pc 680

I have an Odyssey PC 680 (Metal Jacket version) and it has been working well for ~2 years now. The car regularly sits for over 2 weeks at a time and cranking is a bit slower when first starting after this long time, but never any issues. I do not live in a cold climate so can't comment on starting in very cold temps. We rarely see below 28 deg F or so.

Is this battery any lighter than stock? I'm interested in a Braille battery due to their low weight. Anybody here mess with them?

Braille no weight battery. I am thinking about either their 15 lb or 18 lb racing battery. I believe stock is 36 lbs.

Let's try to keep this a technical discussion.

Braille's lightest No-Weight battery that they recommend for a daily-driver that is used in winter is the B2317. It weighs 17lbs. These are the specs:

Voltage: [?]12 Volts
Full Charge Voltage:13.8 Volts
Short Circuit Current (Max Amps):2700 est.
Pulse Cranking Amps (PCA): [?]1191
Cranking Amps (CA):641
Cold Cranking Amps (CCA): [?]475
Amp Hour (AH) - Electrical Capacity: [?]23 amp hr
Reserve Capacity (RC): [?]45 minutes
Internal Resistance:4.25 milliohms (.00425 ohms)
Life Cycle @ 10% DOD: [?]3100 cycles est.

I'm sure the smaller B2015 would get the job done as well, but I would rather have a bit more reserve capacity just for peace of mind.

Is Braille dry cell? I don't remember. I want something that is lighter with just as much power as stock but not a fortune to purchase.

I'll try, but I can't promise anything!

You might try to lighten up a bit.

On a technical note, the stock MINI battery is already marginal, wouldn't a light weight battery sacrifice capacity for lighter weight? For me, that would definitely be a deal breaker. Does a few pounds more really make a difference?
I've had the battery go flat just listening to the radio, while I was detailing it! When my MINI's battery goes south, I want to put the biggest battery that will fit in it. I don't care if it were to weigh ten pounds more.

The thread subject said "Batteries" so I thought maybe we were talking about an RC car.

Seems like you just tripped the "Pick 2" barrier. You want Light, Cheap, and Strong (battery strong at least). You only get to pick 2, so one has to go!

Yes, their No-Weight line is all dry cell. Their's also the B3121 which has plenty of juice.

From what I can see, prices seem to be reasonable.

I am not able to look at my MINI right now as I am not in the US. Can someone please give me some specs on the battery for a R56 S? Also the dimensions so I can go ahead and get a battery? Thank you much.

Yes, these are lighter than stock. Note the metal jacket version I got is a pound or 2 heavier than the 15 lbs quoted below. Also note this type of battery does not tend to like lots of heat. This does not look like a big issue on the Mini since the battery is essentially out of the main engine compartment. Specs from the website posted below:

PC 680 Specs:
 • 680 cranking amps for 5 seconds
 • 595 cranking amps for 10 seconds
 • 525 cranking amps for 20 seconds
 • 17 amp hours
 • Short circuit current over 1800A
 • 25 minute reserve capacity with 25amp load
 • Female brass terminal w/M6 SS bolt
 • Length 7 1/16"
 • Width 3"
 • Height 6 9/16"
 • Weighs less than 15 lbs
Odyssey design:
 • 2 year full warranty
 • Rugged Drycell sealed design
 • Military grade
 • Vibration resistant
 • 60% more starting power
 • Deep discharge reserve power
 • 2 year storage life
 • 8-12 year design life
 • Can be mounted flat or upright

After you change the battery does the mini start and run normal are do you have to go to the dealer for any kind of reset? I wanted to pop the negtive cable off of my 11 so the computer could relearn my driving style.

Nothing is needed from the dealer, the ecu will relearn automatically. You don't need to do this though, since it's continuously adapting.

That's actually really impressive for the weight of the battery. I found them for as low as $116 shipped. Although, I think I would go one step up in the capacity.

You don't have to do to go to the dealership. I disconnect my battery all the time cause I work on it or have to adjust something. It will be fine.

Did you guys with the smaller lightweight battery get the attachment box to make sure the battery is secure.

Also the braille no weights come in the normal and carbon fibre types. I have spoken to Braille many times and they seem to recommend the carbon fibre one for my application.

I just got the b2017r with the universal 8" J hook FRP mounting kit. It will be a little while before I can install it and give feed back but, the guy a Braille that even teh 15lbs one would have worked but I plan upgrading my speakers so a little extra juice won't hurt. Plus its a weight savings of 19lbs.
