Another switched power question

Rather than post a question in the other thread, I'll ask here.

I am looking for power that comes on when the key is inserted into the ignition but not turned and switches off when the key is removed.

I've searched through the fuse diagram and experimented with 'add-a-circuit' there. I can't seem to find the right one to use. Most are either on when key turned or constant.

From the fusebox would be ideal BTW.

Mike

Not sure that exists. I've never seen anything power up just with a key being inserted and not turning it. You may have to go custom for something like that.

There has to be a sensor or something hidden somewhere in there -- if you have auto-locks enabled, removing the key after shutdown unlocks the doors, so there's obviously a switch that senses the key being removed. Theoretically that same switch/sensor would know when the key was inserted as well.

Turned on with the key...but not turned off with the key?! Huh? When would you want it to turn off? The nature of what you want is always on...what would turn it off?! Especially if it stays ON after the key is removed....it would STILL BE ON for the next use unless you use some type of timer....
Short of using power window door power, that stays active till the door is opened, not sure what else would be like you decribe.

On my car, it unlocks on 'engine off', not 'key removed'.

I was in the car the other day, and the door was open and I stuck the key in, and that chime came on! So, yes, ther has to be a sensor somewhere. Perhaps you could locate the chime speaker, and work your way backwards...

Yeah, the power to door might be it, but I thought I already tried that as per the fuse diagram.
What I want to do is power an SSD rather than rely on power through usb from an aftermarket radio.

OK, more details:
Got a parrot asteroid that is connected to a startech powered usb hub. On the hub is my 64gig SSD weee! Currently, I take the power from an 'add-a-circuit' on one of the fuse locations. Forgot which one, but will update tomorrow. Whats happening is the SSD sometimes goes into some sort of sleep mode when the hub power is turned off on the car, but the hub will draw power from usb from the parrot. I think the parrot does not like that either. Anyways, I am also suspicious about the switch one.

What I want to happen is the power to come on early to the hub, and remain on the hub at least for a min after car off and not pull power from the usb connection.

The chime is triggered by the RFID sensor detecting the immobilizer chip. You don't even have to stick the key in, just bring it near the ignition switch.

That doesn't work on my car. They key has to be in the ignition.

Spider, try working with this timed relay...

What year is your car? I have an '06 R52. If the head of the key is close (1/2" to 1") to the ignition switch, the door warning will start chiming without the key actually inserted.

BTW, the chime (and other sounds such as seatbeat warning) is produced by a speaker on the speedo circuit board, which is digital circuitry and impractical to trace.
