Prosport Gauge Help Needed...
Really... I wish I could tell you more, but I'm kinda in the dark too since I don't have the car in front of me.
I installed these gauges (oil temp and boost) on my wife's R56 about 5 months ago and no problems up till now.
Now, the problem is that the oil temp gauge just flashes after the startup check. Boost gauge is fine.
At first, I was thinking it was a power/ground issue. The startup check would usually beep though. So, if it was loosing power or ground, it would keep beeping too while flashing.
I've been searching all over google and if I'm understanding what I'm reading correctly, that the gauge isn't getting a signal from the sending unit.
Is this right?
The only other symptom she can say is that the yellow check engine light is on, but there are no check control messages.
She says she doesn't notice any odd/different noises from the engine bay.
Unfortunately, she can't tell me things like if the oil level is low because she doesn't know how to check a dipstick she says she sees no oil on the ground.
I'm wondering if maybe she broke off the sending unit or warped it enough so that oil is leaking from it and that's why there's no signal and a check engine light.
She's gonna see a friend of mine later on to see what the code is for and if he can see what's wrong since he has Prosport gauges on his WRX too.
I can't help to think if the gauge problem is related to the check engine light or not.
I wish I could just check out the car myself, but I'm in Arizona while my wife's in Hawaii and I don't see her until the middle of next month. Drives me nuts I can't do anything to check it out.
Any and all help/suggestions/thoughts would be great. Thanks!

Yea, what I meant by that is the gauge problem indirectly causing something to throw a CEL like oil loss from a leak caused by damaged oil sending unit tap.
If oil leak / lack of pressure is occuring, a low oil pressure light would illuminate.
That's different than a CEL which is related to emission or ignition control systems.

Thanks for the info.
Had a friend look at it. Definitely was a loose connection to the sending unit causing the flashing gauge.
Don't know how it came off (probably did run over something), but my friend fixed it.
As for the CEL... no idea what that was.
By the time my friend had a look at it, there was no more CEL.
No history DTCs either.
0 misfires and fuel trims were fine too.
Kinda makes me curious why that CEL came on when it did.
But also makes me relieved that my wife's car is fine.

Any time a CEL occurs, the ECU saves a hard fault code in the non-volatile memory.
If you scanning with just a generic OBDII unit that doesn't specifically have MINI protical, it may not pick it up.

A friend of mine has the same problem as we speak.... the right gauge which i think is oil temp starts flashing at the startup.prosport gauge definetely... The flashing was so annoying that he unplugged the whole gauge!!! After reading that thread i'll give it a try to re-assemble the gauge.
