Modifying 2011 R56 VO

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with modifying the VO on a 2011 Cooper S?

I am trying to retro the rear fogs and I have been told i must change the VO with the correct option. I have successfully been able to modify several modules in the car using NCS Expert to enable features such as comfort close and one-touch sunroof. I have also added the FA code $5AA to VO in the CAS module and reset the module by writing a blank FSW/PSW.MAN file.

I am not sure what further steps i need to take or if i am even heading in the right direction so any help would be much appreciated.

You need to also write the option code to the second copy of the VO string in the FRM module.

The fog light is controlled by the FRM module so you will need to re-default the FRM module and maybe KOMBI.

Also instead of using a blank tracefile, go into the profile editor and turn off tracefile manipulation and then process the FRM module.

Thanks.

I got it after some trial and error. I wrote the VO to the CAS and FRM and then selected "Process Car" which reset every module in the car. I had some failure in a couple modules, 2RAD stands out but everything worked afterwards.

If anyone is interested, I am using v41 Datens and EDIBAS 7.2.0

I have been unable to locate any instructions for how to "turn off tracefile manipulation". I can edit the profile, and I see lots of options, but I don't understand which options to change. Can you explain, or point me to a reference document?

I was able to sucessfully retrofit IBOC and Rear Fogs by using the blank tracefile. I am going to change my ULF to ULF-Hi, and add the Sat tuner next, and I'd like to use the recommended method in the future.

Thanks!

I am working on getting up-to-speed on all this mini programming and retrofitting. Is there a table or spreadsheet some where that explains what the abbreviations mean and what the $XXX options are? For example, what does VO stand for? And how do you know to add an FA code of $5AA to some module?

Thanks

I don't have my NCS computer handy. but within NCS expert you have to edit the profile, either the expert or revtor. You can find the password with a quick Google search. And in that dialog box there is an an option check box you need to uncheck something like msw/fsw manipulation.

Thanks! I've got it now.

I also found a good resource for coding documentation, and NCS here:
http://www.bmwcoding.com/forumdispla...MW-Coding-Wiki

I missed this site the last time I was looking because I was not able to access many of the links until I created an account.
(Also some of the documents are password protected)

My next project is to upgrade my Bluetooth only ULF to a Bluetooth + USB ULF-High.

Does anyone have a step by step set of instructions using NCSExpert for coding the VO for the rear fogs on a 2013 R56 JCW? I am sure it it the same as a MCS.
