Anyone have a wiring schematic?

Hey guys,

Hardwiring my V1 today and I am searching for switched power at the overhead console. I know most people here use the purple wire but that does not turn off with the car and I have found a grey wire with a red stripe in the same harness that seems to go on and off with the car. I'm thinking it's probably for the mood lights but I'd like to confirm before I tap it.

Let me know if you can help.

Thanks!

There is no switched wire up there! Best bet is to run a wire down to the fuse box and use an add-a-circuit tap. It is VERY easy to run that wire. Then you don't have to modify any wiring either. And when you go to the dealer you can pull it out and hide it, that's how my V1 is connected.

Thanks. Yes I understand that most people add a fuse but I just think that is a bit overkill and I don't think putting a posi-tap on a wire is really modifying anything. I'm not trying to swim upstream but I've been mislead many times from forums so I just like to verify things for myself. Do you happen to know why this wire won't work? Again, not trying to be difficult but I would think that as many accessories as there are in the console, there would be at least one switched power source.

That GR/RT wire goes to the Footwell module and other systems. I know the load of the V1 is pretty minimal but I wouldn't risk overloading that circuit (espically if it was for the mood lighting, as the V1 would require at least five times the power of the LEDs) and killing the FRM. Here is the wiring diagram:

http://www.mcaw.info/wds/mini/us/r56/index.htm

You can find the roof operating unit at I14286 pin 3 and that leads to connector X1019.

Update: It is signal 58G "Instrument and locating lights." I certainly would not tap that as I would like to have my V1 work when the headlights are off.

Interesting. Thanks very much. I can't believe it's so hard to find a switched power source in this car but I guess that's the way new cars are going.

Just went though every wire they listed up there and there is nothing switched as there is just no reason for it. The hot or not thread will tell you which fuse to tap. I used the PDC fuse location as I don't have that system anyway.

The purple wire recommended does in fact shut off. It has a trickle charge that will keep the V1 powered for about 20 minutes after the car is shut off. It is then reawakened when you unlock the car.

And at other times when the cars computers wake up. SO if you like having a dead battery then go for it. But every time a computer wakes up that line will come on and it will be on for twenty minutes. And the comuters come on at random time for many different resaons.
