LEDs in scuttles...
So, I am not sure if this has been done before or not, but has anyone tried to put in leds between the "fins" on the side scuttles (the part that is covered by the front part of the scuttle) with the glow emanating out of the opening?
I made a quick mock up with a black scuttle picture I found on the internet, and even though blue lights outside your car (except police) isn't technically legal here in Alabama, any colour would do. I am good with electrical stuff, so wiring everything up would not be a problem. Just wanted to know people's opinions on the result, or any suggestions.

I think my state is no forward or rear facing Blue, or something to that nature. As long as you are not trying to look like a cop.
I like that mod!
Although blue might be asking for trouble. I was experimenting with incandescent bulbs and had some blue eye lids for a day (thinking they might be a cheap copy of a Hoen Xenon match from pepboys). If the cop hadn't been writing someone else up I for sure would have got popped with that look he gave me.

I like it. I'd buy that!!
Might be hard to get an even light on the standard chrome scuttles perhaps??

You could definitely tap the parking/daytime running lights in the fog housing wiring and wire it up to the scuttle. It'd be fairly easy as theres already an existing hole in the mounting points for the scuttle.
To get the light evenly distributed I'd maybe have a opaque strip of plexiglass with the LED behind it.
As for water proofing, silicone/hot glue around the base of the led to the prongs up to where its soldered to the sheathed wires.
Or you can just get an outdoor LED since they've evolved so much and I haven't been purchasing any lately i'm sure they exist. I still have a huge collection of the single raw leds from back in the day

Somebody else has had the same idea, you can actually order them from a shop in the UK:

I like it, it's a pity they don't show more pics
