Retrofit rain sensor?

oops! put this under 1st gen by mistake! Gonna go post under 2nd gen...

Has anyone done a retrofit of the rain sensor on a 2nd generation MINI? I have a 2011 and really wish I had the sensor, but at the time of purchase it was one of those things I thought I wouldn't mind compromising about. I swear I am going to be more patient and order a MINI with exactly what I want next time rather than picking the best option on the lot. Yesterday was my first day driving home in the rain... intermittent are too slow and the next speed up is way too fast. Annoying!!

Anyhow...

I assume the sensor is integrated with the windshield, but what else do you need to install along with it?

I've got a 1st gen and was wondering if I could retrofit the sensor also so leave this here.

Actually, what I want to do is have the sensor be able to sense rain when the car is off and close the windows/roof if there's rain. I wonder how hard that would be and how much current the sensor would draw?

Sorry to necro an old thread, but I've been wondering how much trouble this would be to retrofit. Seems the sensor itself is pretty cheap second hand. I do see that the windshield is different, but apart from the screened on black cutout around the sensor itself, I'm wondering if you could simulate that on the non-rain sensor windshield with a piece of cut limo or blackout tint. It appears that the windshield is also tinted a little green compared to the non-sensor version. Not sure if that matters.
