Sprint Booster Install Problems

I hope someone can help me.

I have an R52 manual.

I just received my sprint booster in the mail today.

It's the new one with the LED light switch.

I installed it, fired up the mini, and the engine revs abnormally and when i press the throttle nothing happens.

so i unplugged the Sprint Booster and now back to normal but the check engine light is on.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Could you tell us what the problem was? I may encounter this same issue if I order one.

I realized that if you install it right after you unlock your car then the check engine light turns on.

You have to give it at least 5 whole minutes after unlocking and opening your door. Don't touch anything any buttons, actually once i opened my door i turned off the interior lights and then just waited for at least 5 mins.

But while you are waiting you can use the time to remove the gas pedal.

Remember... key is to wait 5 minutes.

Good info, but you don't need to remove the gas pedal. Just reach to the right of the pedal and unplug the pedal. Plug in the SB and you should be good.

Also, I LOVE my SB. I know it does not add power but it sure does make a difference.

Can anyone speak to the Sprint Booster and rev matching? I find with the stock setup I really have to mash the throttle to get the revs to move at all, which makes it a bit challenging. Do those of you find it easier to blip the throttle a bit when downshifting?

Yes, and starting up from a stop is eaiser too. My only complaint is that the last 80% of throttle travel doesn't do as much.

Thanks for the info. Worked like a charm.

Glad to see some good positive thoughts on the Sprint Booster, we've had alot of people ask questions and this is a good resource for them to get answers.

I just received mine today (from Way Motor Works) and can NOT figure out how to get to the wiring on the pedal. I see the wire on the right side but can't get to the plug. The pedal box has some screws on the left side that may remove a panel but the screws (torx w/post in the center) require a specialty tool that I do not know how to obtain. Anyone have a suggestion?

the torx is a security torx.

take a picture and show your local hardware store. They should be able to point in the right direction. Sears should definitely have it. Otherwise, you can find it online.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was told that you have to remove the pedal assembly and a big screwdriver is required. Is there instructions somewhere (I couldn't find any using a search)?

You don't have to remove the gas pedal (or at least I did not).
Just look for the wiring and the plug. It is on the tunnel side of the gas pedal. Take your time and you will find it and you can unplug the current wiring, plug in the SB and run the wire for the switch.
Once you can get the plug it takes about 60 seconds.

I finally found some installation instructions yesterday. I was able to remove the pedal and install the Sprint Booster. At first, I had the same issue with the erratic idle, no accelleration from the pedal and the check engine light. This was after 30 minutes with the door open.

I was finally able to get it installed again after letting it sit for a while longer and the check engine light finally went off.

After a 20 mile drive last night I am happy with the results. Accelleration is very much improved. Now I just need to get accustomed to it.

Just want to say thanks for the tips guys.

I installed my sprint booster after waiting five minutes, but the engine wouldn't start afterwards. I removed the sprint booster and got her to start up again. Then when I went to reinstall it I waited much longer, like 30 minutes. The trick for me, driving an automatic, was to wait until the red light showing the car was in park turned off. That seemed to be the last indicator of the car not being fully asleep. Thanks again!
