I have a 2003S. Optima Red Top R35 drops in nicely. Do not discard the battery vent tube located on the right side of the hole where the battery goes. I just left mine in place, kind of hanging there. Heard dealers want a lot for them. Optimas don't require venting, but you never know about the next battery, and it plugs the hole it's in, if you just leave it.

Yup me too. I love it. It is not a light race battery, but then again I needed the juice for my JL Amp and Sub. I removed the backseat weight, installed a rear set delete. I guess I traded the rear seat weight loss for a good Optima Red top.

I opted for the yellow top, which is meant to be completely discharged. This will prevent the battery from being damaged if you leave your headlights on. I think its meant for RVs and boats, but its perfect for those who want to run large wattage systems for long periods of time - with or without the car being on. I can leave the stereo on for hours and its fine. This isn't on my MINI fyi, but on another SUV. Highly recommend!

been running it for a while. It fits well, and has the terminal posts reversed so that it all lines up nice. You can get it for a nice price via the Amazonweb store I have on my blog page... www.drobnxs.com

Voltage is the direct result of the number of cells for a given type of battery. It is possible (but not worthwhile IMO) to use two duplicate 6v batterys wired together to make 12 v for car use.....

I have a 34r...good battery...lots of reserve capicity, fits well....long life....pricey...but good quality...and it does not need venting!!

I've got an Optima Red Top Group 34R in mine. The fit was perfect, but I had to put a spacer under the OEM tie down bracket.

Excellent!!!! I have considered going to a yellow top, because my wife runs one in her 7th gen Celica. It has discharged more times than I care for, but it always charges back and holds the charge. Now, all my cars have battery disconnect switches on them so for extended periods of not driving them, we can just disconnect them.

1+

Yellow tops are meant to be drained 100%, and wont harm them at all. They have no memory either. They're a few bucks more, but well worth it

Sorry old son, that was back in October and the sale is way over.

However, I am going to go visit your Amazon web store so thanks for the headsup.

I just added the Yellow Top D34 to the Dr Obnxs aStore

it's more than the Red Top, isn't reversed connections either, but fits the Mini. Both have free "super saver" shipping. There is a cheaper one on an Amazon Affiliates site, but it has $45 shipping costs!

Anyway, here is the link.

I have had a 34R in my 2003 MCS for years. When I installed it I did not see where any vent hose would connect. Can you provide a picture where the vent would go on a 34R which is the direct replacement for our Minis.

BTW, I love the battery and wouldn't consider anything else for my Mini.

Based on Jim's post (#20) the 34R is not vented, only the 34C.

It is nice to see a rep chime in!!
I'm not a laywer or a battery expert, but since the 34r can be mounted in any postion...upside down even, and it would only vent in a worst case seariano...if it did vent/leak/explode even in the factory location...the hydrogen gas buildup is the least of you worries....the situation would certainly be no more dangerous than with a normal vented battery IMO.
The disclaimer...I have a 34r installed....and the fact I don't have to worry about the extra acid sploshing around/leaking out in an accident (any flooded cell battery) outweights the danger of a charging system failure, and then the mess! Just my 2 cents!! Besides...the trunk is not sealed....the vent lines on a battery are largely there to vent corrosive gasses that a made during normal operation of a flooded cell battery...these simply do not get vented in a AGM battery unless something has gone terribly wrong.
Next time...I'll check on the vented one...but no worries!!
