They get warm but you are at only half the design wattage so they should be fine. Only one is on at a time so you can mount them together and it further increases capacity. Mine have been hanging in the air (not mounted to metal) for 2 years so far, no problems, no discoloration etc. Just keep them away from plastic. But for reference at least on my car they did not melt the electrical tape or the zip ties that I was using to hold them on. I cant explain the high beam problem so it sounds like maybe you had a defective harness?

Let us know about the non resistor type. Post a pic when you get it. There was an older design that did not use resistors and was powered by the headlight sockets. I had that one for a few moments but it grenaded on startup. JCarlos914 seemed to have the only working version of that one but it finally went out on him. If it is the same one maybe you will have better luck or maybe it is a different design. Post a pick when you get it and let us know how it goes 07turbomini.

I ran across this thread after unsuccessfully trying to install an HID Kit from DDM Tuning. I tried the 35 watts and 55 watts versions, tried the code /error eliminators, adding a relay directly to the battery and even reversing polarity.

After returning my kits to DDM Tuning the clerk referred me to HID Masters in Huntington Beach in the neighboring plaza.
The guy Misha was very knowledge had the right KIT.
He installed it in 20 mins flat and it now it works perfectly.

Just wanted to share this info in case anybody located in the O.C. or L.A. area is interested in installing HIDs to their non-Xenon headlights.

Sounds like a shill. Easiest method to get rid of bulb errors is with NCS expert. My 2 cents.

Was anyone getting a weird, 6-7 flickering type of action when starting the car? I get it everytime at startup. Calling Retrofit source and those guys tomorrow mentioned above.

I also get a weird flicker on my driver side bulb when my projectors are on.

This is the part that irks me, save energy with a 35W xenon over the 55W halogen then have to add ~25W of resistance to get the bulb out warning turned off.

I just ordered a kit with an OPT7 bi xenon setup and they ( in Calif ) tell me they will send whatever it takes to make it work, relay or cancelling adapter which seems to be using caps instead of resistors , so I will see and report back. I just spent $800 plus $100 programming for the OEM kit on my car so I'm gonna try the cheaper route on the wifes MINI and see how it goes, just can not afford another $900 hit.

 

Please let us know how it all works out, I'm interested in doing this too! :D

 

well total bust , they supplies the single ended control to a relay which of course throws bubl out on unused plug and their ballast ( canbus pro) gives bulb out warning as well.

Up side is it does work well , the moving xenon bulb seems to simulate hi and lo ok and the pattern was acceptable.

They then sent capacitor type warning cancelers, no change so it will need the resistors.

So if that don't work I'll send it all back and start from scratch.

I also have been playing with my motorcycle, which should be way easier since no can bus etc but the bixenon bulb would not fit, just a tad too deep on back side for my housing, so I then tried the hi/lo that uses xenon for low and halogen for high beam, it works BUT that tiny bulb for high beam is useless EXCEPT the fact it does APPEAR to work and will be good enough to pass state inspection as it does put out light hi and lo with the halogen which has no shield around it , the xenon bulb has a shield on the bottom so most light reflect off top of housing and shines down. Work better than halogen for lo beam but I would not use the hi beams. I don't ride enough at night to worry about this set up and the headlights are on 24/7 so the 6K looks alot better in the day time.

Back to tinkering, I think I may go with aftermarket projectors for my spare set of MINI headlamps I have.

 

UPDATE, resistors sent are actually 8 ohm, so that's good news, less waste , only 18watts. And it's sufficient to fool car.

OK, got the double 50w 8ohm resistor pack, plugged 1 into control harness connector that runs relay and bixeneon hi lo flap, plugged 1 into other cars bulb connector that is not used , just to terminate it, ALL IS WELL, no bulb outs, hi lo work. Removed capacitors they sent and they are not needed.

SO now to cable this up and mount.

So in short , buy whatever h13 kit, don't need to be canbus as it won't work anyway, and then get a set of h13 50w 6ohm resistors, you will have 4 resistors, 1 for each hi and lo beam.

I'm keeping my canbus ballast due to warranty and higher quality material. I'll be adding wire to my resistor packs so I can find a nice place to mount them for a heat sink since they get hot.

Next project, order projectors and install in my spare headlamps I can't seem to sell.

 

FYI 8 Ohm resistors reach 335F , I am going to heat sink them and or try 12 Ohm and see if that will be enough of a load , at 12 Ohm it will reduce current to 1 Amp and only 12 watts , as i would like to get temps below 200F .

I have ordered thermal epoxy and some 50x50MM heat sinks. Will let you know how it goes.

The good news is everything works great, visibility is improved 200% , the nay sayers who say the factory housing with out projectors will blind oncoming traffic is greatly exagerated . These 2011 housing work good with a decent cutoff built in. I admit my chevy silverado was not that way, it did broadcast light everywhere but the MINI does not. Of cousre not as clean and nice as projectors but my total cost was less than $150 for quality 35W AC ballast with 4300K Bixenon bulbs, resistor kit, relay harness.

Compared to $900 for MINI OEM bixenon upgrade. Had I known they would have worked so well I would saved my money. I was worried about the xenon output in the factory housing as some people have commented on, but having seen them now for myself those reports are not as some feared.

 

if you are seeking a cheap option i went with Kensun from amazon and ordered HID's and a pair of warning cancelers. , they came out really nice and the cancellers stopped the flickering and warning light like they should.

I have to figure out how to raise my headlights because stock they were Very Low. If you have an idea please help me!

One buld's high beam was broken and one canceler was defective, but the company was very understanding and theres lifetime warranty so i emailed them and they shipped me new ones within 4 days! but I did go for 6k, I recommend 5K or 6K, 6 if you'd like just a tab bit hint of blue.

Which Kensun conversion kit did you go with? There so many options, I don't really know which one to go with. BiXenon? Xenon with halogen bright bulb?

Anyone done this with a pre LCI 2009? Want to upgrade from these halogens somehow without parting with $1K for the 25w mini converversion.

 

It's been a while since the last post here. Hopefully someone here can offer some updated help since most of the links from the previous posts here no long work. I have a pair of OPT 7 LED E13 H13 6000k from a few years ago and just getting around to possibly installing them in my 2009 (R56) Mini Cooper S. Been looking on Amazon for an error eliminator without success. Although OPT7 don't sell the same kit anymore, they said the SERIUSLED has similar set up as the resistors they offered before. Unfortunately the Amazon reviews say they don't work on Mini R56. I'm not a mechanic and just want to buy a canbus error eliminator to bring along with my kit to the "auto stereo" shop for installation. I was wondering if anyone has any luck with an error eliminator that worked with these conversion kits. Thanks.
