Amperage to the horn?

So much amperage is running through the horns when its activated? I bought an aftermarking horn that requires about 350milli amps

thanks

Its hard to find any power circuit that has less than at least 5 amps. Are you sure the horn only needs 350mA (0.35 amps) ? It may be that 0.35 amps is the power required to activate a relay that in turn delivers the total current to the horn. At 5 amps you could drive 14 horns that only draw 0.35 amps. I think the problem you will find if the horn is that small is 5 watts isn't loud on highway. The stock MINI horn is loud and uses a 20 amp circuit so assumming it draws at least 10 amps that would be over 140 watts of noise.

I agree - 350 mA sounds more like the relay turn-on current. As a comparison, the standard Bosch SPDT relay takes 160 mA to turn on.

Even small horns like the Stebel "Nautilus" need 20-25 amps of current. You wouldn't be getting that from the fuse box, though - you'd be powering the horns directly from the battery, and just use the factory horn wiring to activate the relay that comes with the horn.

Keep in mind that replacing OEM horns with aftermarket is illegal in most states. I added an extra horn for fun but wired it separately through the toggle bank.

And I agree with the others...most horns take 20-30 Amps, otherwise no one will hear them.

Wiring diagram on the OEM horn(s) (there are two) shows a 15 amp fuse
before the horn relay.

If you have an alarm, that's a third horn, but it's on a different circuit.
