'04 MFSW Question

I have an '04 with the two spoke MFSW. There are a total of 6 buttons on the back side as follows:
Code:
Next Vol. Up
[no function] Source
Back Vol. Down
Is there a signal wire from the non-functional button already ran which I can tap into? I.e. could I use it as a momentary switch for something? I don't have access to a factory service manual and am not too keen on the thought of ripping open my steering wheel / column / dash to trace down any wires from it.

Unfortunately, I have no definitive answer for you, but there SHOULD be wiring for it. As it is an option that is added later in the build process. (similar to how non alarm equipped minis have the wiring to add an alarm) the button is supposed to be for bluetooth equipped cars.

Hopefully this might help. I have an '03 with full MFSW controls. I was doing research on them since I added a new head unit and wanted to keep my controls.

The buttons are all connected in parallel. When a button is pressed it completes the circuit with a specific resistance associated with it. The difference in the resistance is picked up by a control module and from there that button function is sent to the radio.

The wire that you can tap into to receive the signal from all the buttons is the white/red w/yellow dots colored line under the steering column but there is no specific wire that you can tap for a single button.

I used a PAC swi-jack unit to enable/reprogram all 6 controls on my new head unit by taping into that single wire.
