HID Fog Light Mod

OK. SO I have this HID KIT that I bought eons ago, and never used. Well, one of my Mini's fog lights broke out of it's housing a little while back, and now that spring is arriving, I'm thinking about modifiying my fogs a bit.

The HID Kit I have is an H1 style bulb, 12000K, with all wiring, ballasts, harnesses, etc...
I want to find a Lamp/Housing that can fit that bulb, and also handle the temp of it. Plus I want it to be somewhat small so that I can rig it up right in place of the factory fog lamps.

I've tried looking around for places that sell Fog lamp housings, and even looking up HID fog Kits to find replacement part numbers. Only problem is I can't seem to find out whether or not it will fit an H1 style bulb. I can't seem to find an HID system with H1 style bulb to fit in the bumper.

If anyone has an ideas of where I might be able to find what I'm looking for, please post, as it would be much appreciated.. I'm kinda hooked on this idea now. So what does everybody think?

are the factory fogs H1? If so can you just stick the bulb in it?

Factory Fogs are... You know...I don't even know. I'll have to check that. My only concern would be thier ability to handle the heat from the HID bulb, and also the reflectors are different for halogen and HIDs, so I don't think the light pattern would be very effective.

When you do not have factory fog lights, there is a charcoal plastic louvered housing that twist snaps in the fog light opening ..... so you have a finished look in the fog light holes. I've installed aftermarket fogs by modifying this housing to accept the new aftermarket light mounts. You could ask if anyone who has put factory fogs in has these for sale .... or buy new ones.

I'll look into that. Sounds like a good idea.

HID bulbs don't run as hot as Halogens so heat shouldn't be a problem.

Really? I didn't even know that. Well that's one less thing to worry about then.

I know my post-facelift R53's foglights are H11. I believe the post-facelifts are different?

However, I'm pretty sure they aren't H1 though..

Really?

Well, FWIW, I melted 2 sets of housing, yes 2 lol, by running HIDs in the factory fog light housings. Just picked up my 3rd set and installed Nokya Super Yellows. Works for me.

Factory fog light bulbs are H11.

12,000k is gross dude, go 2500k for yellow or 4300-4500k to match the stock HIDs.

Dude...we must be on the same page with Mods....although I missed out on Jan's tune... I bought an HID kit for my fogs last February and I'm just about to install them tonight.

Did you ever install yours?

I got the Bimmian 10K set.

Out to the Garage I go to pull the bumper off.

Since the HID only uses 35 watts, it runs cooler than halogens which uses 55 watts. The focal point of the HID bulb will be different and will not have a sharp cutoff. This negates all benefits of having a fog light. You dont want to light up any higher than you have to, or else it makes it harder to see in dense fog.
