iPhone/iPod/Sat integration

Having my 08 Cooper for just 13 days and 1800 miles, I think I've spent every free moment scouring these forums from top to bottom.

When I bought my Mini, I wanted to have Sirius added but the dealer had no idea if it could actually be done in the 08. Since taking delivery without SAT, I've realized that I want to add it myself. I'm relatively savvy with wiring and don't think I'll have a problem installing it. The only thing I'm having trouble with is swallowing the $500 price tag. Not to mention,I don't want to visit them for a simple computer modification that will likely cost me $300.

Thus, as an interim solution, I'm looking at adding a standalone SAT tuner. I'd like to connect it via the already installed AUX-in port.

This is where my dilemma comes into play. I already use the USB and AUX port for my iPhone. Of course, I'm lazy and don't want to be switching plugs and have wires dangling in my brand new Mini.

Ideally, I'd like to relocate the iPod elsewhere. Possibly the console or the glove box.

Any ideas on my options here? I'd really rather not spend a ton of cash on such a seemingly simple project....

I didn't see any other responses but here is a few ideas.

I went to rat-shack and got a 3.5mm splitter and a 1ft 3.5mm cable as well as a right angle adapter to save some space. My sat radio works fine and when I plug in the ipod I simply turn the sat off and the ipod works fine.

If you wanted to move the USB port there are a few ways to do this. USB is only a few wires so you could re-wire it from the console to wherever you wanted. You could also plug in a couple of extension cables (USB and 3.5mm) and route those somewhere else. Then plug your Y cable into the extension cables. This should work up to a few feet.

Thanks for the input (no pun intended).

While your solution works, wires seriously drive me CRAZY!

Here's my thinking:
Swallow the $300 price tag for the iPod hookup that goes in the "secret compartment" in the dash. Anybody know if BOTH the in-dash iPod hookup and the existing USB/AUX-in will work?

This way, I have an excuse to buy a new iPod and relieve my frustration with iPhone playing music and bluetooth issues..AND I still get my satellite.

Yes, this puts me over the $500 cost for the MINI Sirius...but I really would be happy with a dedicated iPod out of sight.
