Electrical ScanGauge II vs. Brockway Engineering R920
ScanGauge II vs. Brockway Engineering R920
I'm looking at getting one of these two devices and I'm wondering what experience or knowledge you guys have with each of them.
I like the looks of the R920 and it appears to have a built-in accelerometer to measure 0-60 times, but it looks like it can only display 2 metrics at a time, whereas the ScanGuage can display 4. It appears with the X-gauge functionality that the ScanGauge is more user configurable. Aside from the accelerometer, is there anything of value that the R920 provides that the ScanGauge doesn't?
Also, I didn't see anything on either of the two product's websites that indicates that they do any type of data logging. I'd like something that I can get output from onto my computer so I can graph it. Am I missing something or do neither of them provide this?

I use the Scanguage 2. I currently display water temp, boost, voltage, and air intake temp. The X-gauge function is pretty cool because you can program new guages as they become available. Horsepower and Boost are a couple I can think of off the top of my head. Also, the Scanguage looks almost oem when it is mounted down in the cubby by the shifter. You can even set the backlight to match the Mini's gauges. Ill post a couple pics tommorow so you can see what I'm talking about

Nope - only stuff that can be pulled from the ODB-II bus... but it can show fuel trim and O2 sensor data...

According to this page: http://www.scangauge.com/support/pdfs/XGAUGE.pdf, it can be read for GM cars, but it doesn't say anything about MINIs. I take it that it's up the manufacturer as to whether they report A/F ratio.
Exactly.... whatever your make/model reports via standard or extended data on the OBD-II bus. I've hunted for clues that there may be more stuff "on there" for the MINI... but haven't found anything so far...
so the scangauge will work on a 07 mcs. and you just plug it in the obd port and thats it . im sure i sound like a dip just want to learn more about it. it would be nice to see water temp and boost without and all the other readings without hooking up gauges under the hood and it looks a lil stealth in the cubby.
Can these thing read mini (bmw) specific codes?
Cany they clear the airbag light or other lights related to non-engine modules?
I'm thinking there's nothing out there just yet that can.
Reading the bmw-specific codes probably would be a good thing for diagnostics since the generic readers can give erroneous codes when things get a little tricky.

they can read and clear any code that the powertrain and transmission throws and is stored in the computer on any obdII compliant vehicle. I've read and cleared codes on chevy, lexus, mini with mine.
I'm not sure about the Airbag/Non-Engine modules? Is that controlled through the same computer/port?

I hear you. I've had Vag-Com for ~8 years now.
I heard a rumer that Uwe Ross was going to do a Bim-Com, but it's probably hard enough just to keep up with one mfr. It's not like they're trying to make things easy for him!

I've orderd the Innovate Motorsports OT-1 to use with my Sony Vaio UX Micro PC. This will allow me to run the software on my micro pc for real-time as well as datalogging for later review.
My goal is to add the wideband o2 via thier LC-1 and then add the LM-3 (Aux-Box) for even more functionality, like boost, egt, accelerometer etc.
It's quite a bit more money but the system will do a lot more "data-logging" and acquisiton.
I'll start a thread once I get going on the products and be sure to let eveyone know how it is.

Yes. See my gallery. Ooops. Not an a.
I don't believe so, but I don't remember. But, if those were an option, I am sure I would have chose to display at least one.
