Electrical Gauges installed!
Hi guys. My MINI is the RHD version, so my OBD2 port is on the right, too far to tap for constant power (also a pain the *** i found for routing the meter cable). Is there another constant power source in the middle console? or somewhere on the passenger side?
Thanks
Thanks
Ignition on/off, engine on/off, fob in/out, there's always 12v on the line.12v switched requires the ignition to be on for 12v to be present.
And just to be complete, illumination is a line that only has voltage on it when your marker/headlights are on.

Just finished installing my Alta/Prosport gauges.
Boost + Water Temp.
installed w/ White lighting for day-time driving, Orange lighting for night-time driving.
My impressions,
-Out of the box the gauges look very nice
-Install was pretty easy, Alta rates it a 3 out of 5 stars in difficulty. I'd say it's a 1.5 for difficulty, -it does take time, yet if your patient, follow the directions and read everything before you do anything it's pretty easy.
-Upon starting up the car and having gauges come on.. DANG! These are sweet.
-I opted to install the water temp hose coupler from M7 (instead of drilling into my water resevoir).
-My water gauge is reading a steady 180-185 F.
-Boost seems to be working, haven't driven it too hard to get a good maximum boost level (yet).
-the rattling of the gauge adjustment ***** are driving me nuts. I have a fix in mind (going to slide a thin transparent tubing around each **** post ...this will eliminate the noise).
-orange coloring of gauges matches interior OEM gauges to a T
-I like the on/off sequence the gauges go through ...also like the purple coloring of the gauges when you turn the car off.
-I LOVE the all black face of the gauges when turned off ...matches the black trim on my car's interior very nicely.
If anyone needs help w/ the install feel free to PM or post questions.
(I even had a trick to not lose any water when I installed the M7 sensor coupling).

So I installed a boost guage and need a "switched" wire in my R56 so the light turns on only when the key is on. Sounds like the best option is the OBD port. Which wire is it? Thanks for any help.
btw. I'm boosting about 11-13 average with a few ticks into 15 psi here and there. Thats stock (2007 model, I heard they have higher boost). Going in for a GIAC flash on Tuesday.

Red wire w/blue stripe and yellow hatch.
Took me about 90 mins to install. Went for few test drives. Gauge read "peak 10psi normal" & "peak 12psi in Sport mode." Not a bad gauge for its price, but I still like the Defi better.

12v constant is voltage that's *always* there, so long as you've got a battery installed anyway.
Ignition on/off, engine on/off, fob in/out, there's always 12v on the line.
12v switched requires the ignition to be on for 12v to be present.

It only lights up if i have the lights on BEFORE i start the engine. If i don't then it won't light up when i switch on the lights.
It's the same thing with the Prosport. Your Defi probably gonna last longer than my Prosport tho.
Oil Temp and Pressure are both electrical. Good question! Thanks for asking!
ill let you know in about a month when i'm home and able to install mine...
until then it would be nice to know if i should be expecting this issue.
hey guys
I have had these gauges in my car for 3 years now. Boost and EGT. Wiring was a pain in the arrssss to get them to work right as far as color and when they lite. Had to play with the wiring for about an hour. The instructions were not correct with the wiring in the car as far as color coding. I can't remember what the wiring was. Had a buddy at the dealer play with the wiring with his dealer wiring info.

1) Oil pressure gauge (as well as the other options from ProSport) have all been very accurate. when we first bought into the line ALTA2 (Jeff) tested each type of gauge on a bench first. So you should be just fine.
2) On the illumination with ProSport (not sure on defi as it has been years since I have hooked a kit up) the key is getting the feed to the leads proper. The instructions SHOULD be correct on all the color codes and I believe we adjusted the ALTA instructions to match the proper codes. I had two wires backwards on my personal car though and it would do odd things. If anyone is having an issue with the colors not cycling properly, please let us know so we can help you!
Thanks folks!
Thanks ADAM. I had my issues 3 years ago when I got my GP. The wiring instructions back then weren't right according to the dealer. But, that was a long time ago. I know if you don't get it right, they won't light properly.
Thanks
Thanks
Adam, I tapped all the wires according to the Alta instruction.
Red wire to OBD II Red wire w/blue stripe and yellow hatch
Black wire to Brown wire on Cigarette lighter
Orange wire to Red wire on cigarette lighter
Grey wire to DCS module
How to fix this to get White day-time and Amber night-time?
