HIDS on an 03 cooper

I was looking into an hid kit for my 03 mini. Have a friend that can get kits for $100 but they asked if the headlights are bixenon or not? All i know is they are the H7 bulbs correct?

The car did not come with hid's. So just a plug-n-play kit will work? Or do i need something specific for the mini?

Thanks

They are NOT bixenon since you have a bulb for high beams and low beams. Yes, a plug and play kit is all you need and zip ties to hold the ballast to the headlight assembly. Yes H7's the low beams.

If you put HID bulbs in the non HID housing you will blind oncoming drivers at night. To do it properly you need to switch out the entire housing.

Any updates on this? Wondering if anyone had upgraded their H7 non Xenon to the brighter HID kit and what the results were. Additionally, curious to see/know how you installed the balasts (not much room in the hood area.
I've also thought about installing the inexpensive HID kit to the H11 bulbs in the fog lights.

It's a really bad idea to put HID bulbs in a housing that was not designed for them. You won't get a proper or legal beam.

I installed a plug and play HID kit into my '05 halogen housing. My friend and I did a few drive-by tests (he owns an S2000) and I asked him if there was any difference between the OEM (H7s) and the HIDs while driving passed my car. He told me that glare-wise it's not a problem but since my bulbs are blue-ish it makes him want to look at my headlights.

I got my HID kit for free so I decided if it was going to be too big a bother to oncoming drivers that I would just sell it for some cash and get some Silverstars my buddy told me there's no glare. However, when I drive and look down at the road I do see some minor hot spots on the road. I think this issue has been overly exaggerated when people say that you'll blind oncoming drivers. As long as you install it right it shouldn't be a problem. The only issue that's really present is whether or not police offers will pull you over for the color of your headlights. (Which in my case has not happened once)

Thanks for the info . . . curious to know what rating bulb you are using. Sounds like its 6000 . . . I'm looking @ using the 4300. Final question, did you install the balast under the plastic headlight housing? this is where the OEM ballast is installed - if so, what are you using to hold it in its place? Thanks for your info.
