Flashing Brake lights

Is there any way to get your brake lights to flash, not the third, but the first two . Ford GT style, where the left flashes 3 times, then the right flashes 3 times, then repeats. I love that look, and i think the left and right even overlap a bit. I would love to have mine flash like that, its not like i sit on my brakes at lights anyway....

thanks

Are you sure thats how it is? The only time I saw something similar on a GT was a Top Gear in 05 or 06 when Clarkson pulled in to a service station. At the time it sounded like the framerate of the camera caused that illusion.
Here's a video of Clarkson testing a GT in last years video that he made. Within the first minute or two he's on the brakes and they look quite normal...

I think what you are thinking of is this video.
Check it out at about 7 minutes 10 seconds as they pull into the service station. You can see the brake lights strobe...I read it's a framerate illusion... but hey... I could be wrong...

yeah, it was deffinetly on the clarksons GT test drive, i keep seeing that episode on tv, and keep wanting those light flashes. At the end of the episode when they are going over the bridge the lights do it again. My best friends cousin is into electrics and robotics, might have to get him to build it for me, i should think he could pull it off.

I checked the mustang footage one, not like that, the single light flashes three times (so it would be like all three on the stang at the same time.

And for those that are wondering, check the Topgear clips from above (im assuming, i didnt look at them, but i know thats where i got the idea), its not like the light pulse, but when on the brakes, they light up, the a brighter (think rear fog bright) light flashes. It would actually be nice to be able to turn it off for the street, and just have it on on the track.

thanks for the help guys,

Oh, so is it the same deal with the F1 cars? their center rear flashes on some cars, but not others, is that frame rate or do theirs actually flash?

Good to read that part. My first thought was "if I was stuck behind this guy in stop and go traffic, I might just ram him to stop the lights from blinking"
(I have the same reaction with motorcycles with flashing headlights :impatient )

Continuously flashing would be very annoying in traffic. I saw this on some new car recently.

Flash once or twice would be beneficial after stepping on the brake then constant.

The F1 cars actually flash for safety.

I saw the same thing on that Top Gear video when it was released and thought "wow, how cool is that". After looking around the interweb for a couple weeks after that show aired the buzz was that it was an illusion and had something to do with the framerate and the LED lights.
Regardless, it would be interesting to have, although most likely a ticketable offense in most locals. I had something similar to the above mentioned sequential lights in my Mustang and got pulled over 3 times before I finally decided to pull it to save the hassle.

The video mentioned did indeed have to do with the frame rate (PAL) and the LED lights. It was simply an effect of the filming.

well, i have spent since my last post waiting to download enough of the topgear clip there to see the lights. Yeah, after watching it a couple times, there really isnt a pattern to it, but thats not going to stop me, on the up side, i had actually forgot about the foozeball part, its wasnt on the tv the last couple times that episode was on, hahah

If it's legal in your area then you should be able to do an LED conversion and use the same (or similar check the specs first) pulsar that you can put on the 3rd brake light. Some place its out right illegal others have a 5 second cap on the flashing, not not sure anyone allows continuous flash, but I could be wrong.

hahah, ken, i never thought about that....

it might be illegal, but the only thing anyone ever get harrasad about around here is no front plate (ive been stoped twice, for no reason other than the plate), but everything else like tinted headlights, tinted tails, all illegal, but the cops dont care. I think i would have a switch so it only did it at the track. or maybe see about only 2 repeats. It just looks so cool, hahah. Imagine that, me wanting something because its cool, not not much else, of course, it would be a nice attention grabber

Saw them on a Black 'stang Quentin turning east onto Algonquin, which is how I knew what to look for. I think its safer cause I definitely noticed it, but it's also illegal in IL and needs a 90 degree turn with arrows for it to be really functional

also reminds me of those pos factory stereo's you find on the Maz3.

blink blink blink blink LED pulsates like a color organ. that was
my highschool electronics class project back in the 80's. it was kinda
"cool" back then.

I was behind a Z06 last night that had the third brake light (:ED) set to flash 8 times every time he stepped on the brake. Luckily, he decided to turn just before I was about to run him over with the F350.. REALLY annoying....

Would you have run him over with your F350 if he was in a Mini??
