Yes, snip the wire and strip someof the red jacket off (about 1/2 inch), then put it in the blue sleeve and crimp it with pliers.

You can get extra wire and the blue crimp sleeves at Advance Auto Parts. You might not need it but I did.

The black box from the V1 can be secured somewhere under the dash (with Velcro as you mentioned earlier). You will be plugging the black "phone cord into it after you run that cord from the V1, around the headliner, down the A-pillar, etc..

For the Add-a-circuit, it should have come with several fuses. Remove the bottom fuse in the center column of the fuse box. Put that fuse in one slot of the Add-a-circuit and another one just like it in the other slot. Then plug the add a circuit back into the fuse box. Run all the wires out the top of the fuse box (it's open) and close the door. The secure the wires with velcro or zip ties so things aren't rattling around in there.

astromini- why don't you just use the cig lighter cord (the flat one),
feed it into the ceiling liner and down the a-pillar, and just plug it into the
12v power socket? you're starting to scare us.

if you dont know how to read the box of an add-a-circuit you shouldn't
be working on your car. you could accidentally tap into the 30A fuse slot,
melt the add-a-circuit housing and even cause a fire. the add-a-circuit is
max 10A on a good day.

you should either have someone guide you howto install in person, have
a shop install it, or just use the power cord that plugs into the 12v.

Yeah, I'm getting concerned too. I was going to offer to help on the phone. Astromini, PM your phone number if you want some voice to voice help with this. You do need a basic understanding of how things work before trying something like this. I assumed you had that.

As Ken noted earlier, the AAC is rated to 10 amps - probably better to not have the heavy current a cig lighter uses (assuming anyone uses it as a cig lighter anymore!)

That, or take a road trip down to Santa Cruz. We'll hardwire the V1, and have a junior lesson in auto mechanics.

I thought the AAC was rated to 15, so that was my mistake. Just confirmed the specs at 10 amps on Parts Express. I'm pretty sure I used F36 which is 5 amps and unused on my MINI (heated windshield). I also have my NUVI plugged in with and AAC so I'll check them both tomorrow to be sure.

(Gonna remove the reference to the 15 amp fuse in the previous post)

And it's not pretty, either. And we know you like pretty. A shame there's no way to incorporate Hydro into the install.
