Wiring Help

I have a Harmon Kardon Drive & Play interface for my iPod. It's a great little gadget that I highly endorse. I'm getting a Sirius Plug & Play system for Christmas. Right now the HK unit is plugged into the AC adaptor. I'm going to need to hard wire both of these devices. I can figure out ground and battery, but I need to know which wire to tap for ignition so it turns off with the car. Thanks!

I'd suggest an add-a-fuse and tapping into switched power sources there.

Yup I hear that. I was originally thinking about that option. I guess great minds think alike.

thats the easiest and cleanest way to do it imo. just add the "add-a-fuse" into the spot for the radio so if one is on the other one is too.

This sounds kinda interesting. So where did you put the main Drive and Play unit/brain? How does the unit interface to the installed stereo? Are the cables to the display and control **** easy to hide?

Drive + Play

I installed my Drive + Play in under 3 hours. The main unit is mounted to the back of the large interior panel beneath the steering column. The control **** is mounted to my dash down and to the left of my speedo, under the left center vent. The screen is below the right center vent. About 2" of the screen's wire are visible, but very little of the control ****'s can be seen. It is currently running off of the AC power (mostly because I was lazy and in a hurry at the time of the install), and the iPod itself is in the cubby below the toggle switches. I'm getting Sirius for Christmas and plan to hard wire that and the Drive + Play then, as well as move to iPod to the glovebox. The install is very straight forward, and if done carefully, the wires will not show much, or at all (depending on where you install the components). The color of the mount bases matched my dash perfectly which was another feature of this product. When installed well, it looks nearly stock. Lastly, the wires to connect the components to the hub are very long and give you a good range to work with. I ended up bundling and zip-tying a lot of extra wire, but I've seen the control ***** mounted other places like in arm rests. PM me if you have any questions.

Add a circuit

I have an 08' Cab. and I too wanted to add something that would power off with the ignition. All of the circuits that I tried, and I tried a lot of them, are hot all the time at the fuse. Not sure how they do this. Must be a master relay somewhere tied to the ignition circuit. Any thoughts

could be they are still hot due to the excess charge remaining after a certain time period in the fuse box. give it maybe half an hour and check again. of course, I hardly know what I am talking about, but I believe they are timed.
