MSD coil

Was wondering if anyone is running the MSD coil for the MINI. If so impressions?

I've had mine for quite a while now and no problems what so ever.
Can't say there was any noticeable Hp increase or actually any difference in performance but I'm not planning on taking it off.

About the only easier mod would be the antennae change.

It could be one of those mods that helps in a way that adds up eventualy but don't buy it expeecting any great results.

It's red so I'm convinced that it adds 3-5hp...

Sorry, dude. I meant mine in all good fun. But seriously, some people say they see an increase in mpg/power/throttle response. But, in almost all occasions save for the extreme end of street cars, a multiple spark discharge style ignition will show no noticable increase in anything. Only very highly boosted vehicles (20+lbs), heavy bottle cars (150+hp hit) or a vehicle using 100 octane or higher gas or even alcohol will show a usuable improvement.

I thought you'd figured out that I have had one practically longer than anyone else here and therefore, the answer would be academic...

To address your questions, they probably don't add much if any in performance other than some well deserved MSD consistancy and quality...the red doesn't hurt either...

Sorry man... What he said... Not really worth replacing your OEM with it until something goes wrong with the stock one. Just my 2 pennies.

I have had one for a couple of years now . No measurable upgrade but it was only $ 50 at the time so I really didn't expect much. Was just looking for something to change

If your original coil is good then there is no gain whatsoever.....but if you feel like spending some money...each to his own...i put 100K on my original coil and still going strong.

I am trying to do the install of one. Which bolts did you use to put on the MSD? The bolts from the OE do not fit. I went to Lowe's, Home Depot, and Advance and no one has similar bolts. Suggestions?

I just went to my local hardware store and got some bolts that were the same thread, length, and head size and it worked like a charm. Might have better luck with an ACE if you have those around. They seem to have better selections of hardware. Home Depot and Lowes should have had something. Did you ask someone there that was of some level of competence? Good luck with it! I've been running mine for about 6 months now with the Nology Hotwires....no misfires at all so far and plugs still look great without getting fouled at all.

Have had mine 3 years,no problems,no noticed performance gain as most all have said.Would recomend if you replace plug wires, get the good stuff,MSD,Nology....I tried the ''pretty blue'' off brand wires, while they ran ok,the first time i removed them to check plugs for tightness, the brass connector pulled off the wire! I replaced with MSD wires and have removed them several times with no problem.Like the old saying, you get what you pay for.

"For those joining us late" > I've been running the MSD Coil & Super Conductor wires for over a year - mainly installed because 3 diff sources recommended it before/when installing the 15% pulley to help insure the pistons stay in one piece - marketing? - but I've had no problems with misfires, so I feel it was worth the money - it's like car insurance: you don't know if it's the wrong one until it's too late (BTW > they run to the Iridium IX's, and I bought all my mod.s - ign/pulley/strut brace/CAI - w/ the $600 bonus tax check the gummit gave me in '08 - and not a thing from eBay)...
Also: A locally available part! - AutoZone can order the coil for you and have it in >48 hours, and their price was even w/ anybody else I checked online, and tax is cheaper than shipping - bring in the part # and it's for a Chry-Mitsu 1.6 (IIRC '96 to '99) - at least mine was ('03 MCS)...

The specific bolt you are looking for is M6 x 60 with a 10mm hex head.
