Installing OEM Driving Lights. How do you do the wiring
Hey. Ive almost completed installing the MINI factory driving lights for my 2004 Mini. I just got confused on how to do the wiring underneath the drivers footwell area.
The MINI instructions are horrible and in black n white.
Can anyone post a picture to show me how its done?
I dont know where to connect to the yellow/green wire (A5 in the instrustions). It says i have to disconnect the yellow/green wire going to X335 (pin 15) from the BODY CONTROL MODULE, Where is that?
And ive connected the purple and red/gray wires, but im not sure if its correct. It says to connect them to the MAIN RADIO... does that really mean the wires coming from the radio???
Why would lights be connected there?
Here the link to the instructions. I dont know how to do steps 22 through 29.

Also, the factory driving lights only turn on with the high beams.... Did anyone get the RLR module to override the high beams interlock? Does it really work? Was it hard to install?
I think this might qualify for its own thread
The MINI driving lights on both of our cars work whether the headlamps are on low-beam or high-beam. I mentioned it to the service advisor where we bought the cars, and he had no idea that they *weren't* supposed to work with the low beams.
I've looked at the driving light directions to see what the dealer mechanic did differently, and I think it has to do with where he chose to run some of the power leads. I can look a little more closely if anyone's interested.
DL wiring
I've installed several sets of these

The body control module is on the side of the pass' side footwell - you need to pop the plastic side cover off (which means pull up carpet and the side moulding). Then you don't disconnect the pin 15 wire, rather you tap into it....just make sure you tap into the wire on pin 15. If you disconnect the connector from the bottom of the module then you can see the pin #s on the connector. Note that you will be matching wire colors.... AND the wire you tap is thicker, this is why you have one wire tap in the kit that has a fat lead hole and 4 thin ones....you only use two parts of it, but need the fatter opening. Or - do what I do - make a solder connection then seal it up. BTW this is the high beam trigger. This line is hot when HB is on...the driving lites will only work when this line is hot. Therefore tapping this to the wrong line - one that's always hot will allow the DL to be on anytime.... not that I would do that.....
{DO have battery disconnected when you do this BCM work ... a fried BCM would be $$$}

Believe it or not, as best as I can tell all you did with that major PIA task of accessing the back of the radio, was provide the illumination to the on off button [tied switch illum to radio nite illum]
and the relay hot...the relay power could come from MUCH easier places and unlit button???? As I've said B4, non factory kits like Hella and PIAA are a lot easier to wire - in my experience anyway - they come with very same brackets for the grill mount. Took me a couple of tries with the factory B4 it all made sense so don't feel bad. Eventually had a car with the factory install next to the one I was doing so I could track the wires. Once done, it made sense....not b4.
thank you

I was looking to rewire my oem driving lights to be hot when the ignition is on. Is there a wire on the BCM I can tap into for this to work? I'm aware of the legality with having the driving light on with low-beams, but I want to be able to turn them on whenever I like.
All u need is an always hot

Thanks for all of your responses. Despite the fact that my question came across as ignorant, I'm glad that other people are interested. If you have anything else to add I'd appreciate it. It's 100 degrees in St. Louis but I can't get enough done on my car. It sounds like a good weekend project... I just need a little more specifics. Thanks!
I guess thats the route I'll go to wire it up. Thanks for the help.
