Still Too Early for Discounts Off MSRP?

Is it still too early for discounts off MSRP? Any dealers demanding more than MSRP?

Mine wasn't over MSRP but there were no discounts on it, either. I did the pre-order thing and traded in my '19 Volt which they gave me a good deal on.

Will be interesting to see what happens with discounts. No doubt they have a backlog of orders to fill, but I have to think many customers are cancelling orders. On the other hand the Oxford plant is closed for at least 4 weeks so everything else being equal that will reduce how many units are available.

My local dealer said they delivered all of their pre-orders on the morning we came to test drive their demo car. They weren't allowed to order any to sell on the lot because other regions pre-orders still get priority. Said we could put in an order but it won't arrive until after the factory reopens and all other pre-orders are delivered. This makes sense, but who knows when that will actually be.

It's so good, I wish I would have dropped the $500 for the pre-order, but I can't put money towards a vehicle without driving it first. Owell.

Probably trading in our R61 JCW 6MT so we expect to get a very generous offer on that car. I don't expect any deals beyond that.

Might want to call each dealer within a reasonable distance and tell them what you are interested in, especially if you have some flexibility on color and options. It's all but certain there will be canceled orders in this environment. For example someone who lost their job and can no longer qualify for financing.

There will indeed be opportunities.
Of course, dealers always try to hold maximum gross on new models.
All we can do is present a reasonable offer and give dealers the opportunity to make us a satisfactory deal.
Since the buyer brings the loot and the required signature to any deal, I think it's always worth the effort to ask for an aggressive deal. One never knows until one tries.

I felt the same way, but the $500 pre-order was fully refundable. I knew there was a 95% chance I would love it, but still was reassured that I could get my deposit back if I didn't.
