Drivetrain I'm getting the 19% pulley, any advice?
I'm getting the 19% pulley, any advice?
The big day has come! I'm taking my '02 S in for it's 60,000 mile service and I've decided to get the 19% installed, with a new belt, while it's there. Any advice? I don'tdoany track runs, just street driving with some freeway.
Haha you sure about that? I don't have the 380s or GIAC... I can't believe you Bart and I haven't gotten together to "compare" cars haha.
Here's some advice, buy new tires cause your gonna waste 'em right quick haha...

Don't play too high up in the RPM range. Definitely do not redline it.
If the engine is at redline, the supercharger is going to be spinning way faster than it was ever designed to spin. This is due to the 19% pulley. So be careful.

I posted a bit of info in this thread if you haven't checked it out
.
yes the 19% pulley does overspin the supercharger but that would only be in 4th-6th gears at WOT. but the REAL problem isnt the supercharger! its the water pump that is turned by the output shaft on the SC. if that bad boy starts cavtating you can have some real problems!
BUT! after 10,000 miles and NO problems (meaning NO problems! no belts thrown, no blown motors, no failing water pumps, NO NOTHING!!!!) I LOVE the 19 and would have wanted it after a few weeks anyways!
the way ive gone, I spent most of my time making sure my car could cool most of hot air I was feeding the motor, aka making more power and safety. but if you really want to blow the doors off of lexus IS 350's then the larger injectors and a remap/tune will be needed. but if you do it, you WONT regret it! (this from someone who HAS a 19% pulley!)
Thanks for all the info. I know the 19% has been controversial since it came out, but based on the type of driving I do I thought it was the best choice. I don't track the car, so I'm not worried about water pump cavitation at sustained high engine speeds. On the freeway, 70mph is right around 4k in 4th, so no problem there. What I want is a little extra push around town, so I dont have to slip the clutch in first with the air on, and to make that guy in the GTI think twice about MINI's ;}. NOW that I've had it done, I've discovered that it is addictive, and as with any addiction, I now crave more... next is one ball, then 380 and finally GIAC. But right now, I gotta go cause I hear this whine in my head and my right foot is twitching....

. It's a waste of money, you don't make more HP from having larger injectors, it's just a bottleneck that needs to be removed if you choose to go past a certain point in modifications.
I don't see why everyone is so tempted to put larger injectors in their car. There are cars pushing 220+ HP to the wheels with stock injectors and they're running rich

Like he said, it seems like the logical next step if you've already done intake, pulley, header, exhaust, and chip tune. You'd need it before the head work and at its price, cheap insurance i guess you could say. More than anything its people that plan on pushing past the low 200whp mark that get the injectors. I'll be getting a set one day, but not before I get a dyno tune... Just my opinion anyways...
