Drivetrain Randy's ecu upgrade
Who has done the ecu mod. If you have done it did you feel a difference in the car. If so was it like the difference when you changed the pulley. I know the pulley gives more torque. I just dont want to spend $700.00 and not feel a difference i already did that once with the header.
We have done two here, and both have produced very noticeable, dyno proven horsepower.
I again can say that I am totally hapy with this upgrade. I was also happy to see perfpow come up with something different, and hope to see the dyno results soon. With both coming in at the same cost, maybe if a few others out there come up with tuning that works, the price will start coming down. I certainly hope so, but as I've said before, as long as it works, I would be happy to pay to play. I still think for the money, this is a great option.
Feel free to call if you have any other questions.
Here are some of the most asked:
It costs $719.
If the dealer reflashes it, the reprogram is free.
If any evolutions come out, upgrades are free.
The only reason a dealer would reflash it would be to upgrade to a new CD, not during routine maintenance.
It is undetectable by the dealer.
Hope that helps!

Trippy,
I understand how you feel about ECU flashing, and the cost, and I'm right there with you brother, but it's what is available. There is no other game in town that provides the advertised power upgrade for less, period - I've tried!
As far as how to go about getting the reflash, you do have to send it here, unless you are local, in which case you just have to drive over and get it reflashed on the car.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

What about these guys at $495? powerchipgroup
That certainly seems more reasonable. And all the talk about not being able
to keep a business going if you charge less than $750 is questinable in this light.
And please don't think I'm totally against this product or your company.
I have read this board long enough to know you are a great friend to the
MINI community.

Actually Trippy, if you give tham a call, the Powerchip for the MINI is $990. After testing, this unit proved to be less than advertised anyway. The pulley unit did poorly - less than 8 hp gains.
No offense taken. I was doing fine with charging nothing for the ECU, since I didn't have one I was willing to offer, so I agree that the whole business will fold scenario is moot. What I will tell you though is that my margin is less than 20 points for what I charge, so I can't go less and still carry the product. For me it is a matter of having a viable product that produces as advertised, and the cost justification has to be left to the customer.

WWWHHHAAATTT!!!!!!
I'm verifying this with Powerchip right now. They have $495 on their website
so if they are charging a THOUSAND DOLLARS for the MINI, it just verifies
people trying to rip off the MINI community. )

>>MAN, that's over TEN THOUSAND inch-ounces!!!

Nope, thats metric lbs.

Correct, the $500 deposit is for the laptop that they send to YOU.
Would be so very nice to see a comparison of ECU products.
I am sure that would be time consuming, thus expensive and perhaps to the detriment of all but one of the entries.
Randy ... you there? When are you back at your home base? I know that you are currently on a magical mystery tour, pumping up all those Minis right?

>>Yes, it's $990, but you get $500 back when you return the programmer.
I smell an ECU upgrade party. Get 3 or more to chip in towards the $490 and the temporary $500 charge and we burn'em all.
Of course this is highly unethical, I would never DO that and besides, I'm sure they have some measures to prevent us from doing it anyhow.
Right?

Right?
You must e-mail your current ecu prog & they e-mail back the upgrade.
Please refrain from even "joking" about "cracking/hacking" stealing.
It all begins with a joke till someone loses an eye! lol

For the pulley software, until I hear otherwise, my e-mail states $990. The other number, $495, is for the stock S program.
I'll verify that Monday, and speak with them about testing the product.

My email from them also quoted $990 for pulley specific software. They did not indicate anything about refundable deposit. If the price is indeed $490, it would be great to see a test and comparison to other products.
Well, I finally got the EvoTech ECU upgrade that Randy is offering and did a dyno run earlier today. Here are the results, which are quite nice and as expected based on other posts for a similar setup:

Run 1 is the Madness Intake only.
Run 4 is with the 15% reduction pulley
Run 7 is with the EvoTech ECU upgrade

Great graphs!
I'm getting the pully done tomorrow and this makes me comfortable stopping there rather than also doing the ECU. Below 5000rpm the pully does twice as much as the ECU for only just over half the price. Above 5000rpm the pully and ECU give similar increases. It shows the pully to be a great deal for the cost concious owner who wants power for regular driving.
