Alta upgraded fuel pump?

Can anyone give me the pros and cons to installing the new Alta fuel pump? What kind of modifications would work best with this new fuel pump? Is it only for twincharged and turbo only cars? Thanks

From what I have read, only twincharged and 19-23% pully'd cars will see benefits from this upgrade...

I sent an email to Alta to get further info.

You might cost me a fuel pump lol

I have the 19% pulley with the 380cc injectors and GIAC remap. I am real interested in this product also but have no idea what the pros or cons would be. If you can find out some info and post it that would be great. Maybe we can do a group buy and get a discount. Hope to hear from you soon.

I wouldnt run the 255lph pump unless you calculated its neccessity. I dont think you need it for 380cc, but if you would run 500 or larger then yes. There was a calculated thread a bit ago if you do a search.

The main issue I have with the pump is, it sits higher in the pump carrier than the stock. I have ran out of fuel about 4 times since running this pump. If you go this route, you will want to fuel around 1/2 tank to be safe.

here is a great link for calculating fuel injector size. From this you can derive what flow pump you should be running.

Would it be a waste of time and money for me to switch my 380cc injectors for larger ones plus a bigger fuel pump? My car has the 19% pulley, 380cc injectors, GIAC computer remap, alta intake, WEBB exhaust, JCW engine package. Any info would be great. Thanks

I've asked Alta and, as usual, they were very helpful!

Here is the answers I got:

Thank you for asking. Yes the pump will be very helpful in keeping those injectors well fed at the higher RPM's. This should add several HP in that range.

First time installer expect 1-2 hours. It is very straightforward.

If we can help in anyway further PLEASE let us know.

Thanks for choosing ALTA Performance Products.

I'm no motor head to say the least, but isn't the last thing you want to do to add HP in the higher RPM range is add fuel? I mean the problem is that the ECU is already dumping to rich a blend at the higher RPMs, thus causing that annoying flat spot and HP drop.
To date I have not heard of anyone losing fuel pressure with a 19% pulley, but again, what do I know. I leave this up to those that I call on the phone ..

Honestly I would say no. Not until your getting close to 300bhp would I consider upping the fuel pump. Have you dynoed the car by chance? If not what to you calculate your bhp is? From this we can estimate what size injectors you need. I honestly think you are close enough with the 380cc in your current setup, but without knowing your bhp its all a calculate guess at best. If you run it on the dyno you can also check your a/f ratios. If your ratios are fine, then larger injectors really wont help much unless you have a way to control the fuel delivery to them. Even so, your only talking a few hp or torque here and there, not worth the cost imho.

Ryan spillman has stated he has run up to 32psi without running out of fuel from the stock system. Done on a dyno. Also consider there are plenty of twin-chraged cars out there with mega miles on them with the stock fuel delivery system....

we've made 300 to run 114 in the 1/4 and the pump has been okay, and don't fotget this is in a real world environment with accelerating g forces trying t o push the petrol back in the tank .

I have not yet dynoed my car but stock JCW says 200bhp, and after all the goodies i put on my car I would say I am at about 230-240bhp maybe. So I guess this product would serve no benefit if twincharged cars don't need it, so why would I, . Just wanted to spend a little money, maybe I will look into something else like an OBX header. I appreciate all the replies and info supplied.
