Drivetrain Cam Swapping
Cam Swapping
I have a relativly technical question, since our motor is a chrysler designed mitsubishi motor, has anyone ever looked into using a cam from a mitsu or anything in our motor? I dont know if this exact motor is actually used in any other car or not (with the way things are going in the automotive world, it would seem odd that if bmw is using someone elses motor it wouldnt be an existing motor in cars from that company). I eventully want to put a cam in my cooper (non s), but the cooper shrick cam isnt wild enough, and i dont want to use a blower designed cam in a N/A motor. Any thoughts? thanks alot

It was mainly built for the MINI. But as it was a joint venture with Chrysler, they used it in their Euro PT-Cruisers and I believe Neons.
I read somewhere a little bit back that Fiat bought the Tritec plant recently...

It doesnt have much of anything to do with Mitsu, and more to do with Chrylser. The Tritec shares alot of architecture with the 2L "PL" motor used in the Neon, and in the "Diamond Star" built Mitsu Eclipse. I dont think any parts are actually interchangable, other than the ignition coil, wires, and probably a few other miscellaneous bits. It all dates back to a deal BMW struck with Chrysler before the Chrysler merger with Mercedes (1997).
