Drivetrain Possible Pulley Problems?
Possible Pulley Problems?
Ok, so for the past several months I have been mulling over the idea of getting either a JCW pulley or a 15% reduction pulley. I have a promini intake and a milltek exhaust on my early 04 Cooper S. For those who have pulleys, how long have you had them on and did they cause any problems? Normally how long do the superchargers last? Will I need to buy injectors? How long do the JCW cars make it before they need the supercharger replaced?
Thanks,
-Matt

I am sorry to say this, but for this question I have to. PLEASE! try the search function! I can bet there will be at least two threads on the subject.
But for real, this question has been mauled over THOUSANDS of times! There are hundreds of people that have tens of thousands of miles on 15% and more pullies. hell I'm pushing almost 40k on a 19% (gonna break everything! pulley
) I have had no pulley related problems. but I did spit out a plug, most likely my fault. Over torqued and never checked plugs.........So yeah there is a wealth of info on these forums. I sugest the advanced search function and stick to the drivetrain s threads, I bet you get a hit or two.....
post #455 to see ALL my mods.

I am sure you can find someone that is getting rid of a jcw pulley. they arnt rare, nor will you have any problems with a 15% pulley.
Once again, I am SURE a search will come up with plenty of great candidates! U just need to go through some of peoples findings and see what fits in your budget and mods list! Nothing better then building a mini with a plan and hitting a big HP # without much money spent!
I am sure many people will have their favs, but to find it yourself and get the power and performance you wanted is truly what this game is all about.
Personally I have a GIAC flash. aka a "canned" tune. good for a car that doesnt have extensive mods or plan on doing many more mods. (such is live, I had to do MANY mods to make my car run again) so now I am getting a "custom tune by RMW". (try that search string and see what happens
)
There are big HP and TQ #'s to be gained. But you need a plan, and the best way to get it is talk with a tuner, and go from there. Here is a great question to ask yourself; What do you want to do with your mini, and how do you want your mini to do it?
once you can answer that, you are half way there........
hope this helps.....

The JCW pulley will only come with a new "JCW" supercharger. It's a heat and press type pulley which you probably don't want to mess with.

Matt,
I put a 15% Webb pulley on my 2006 S when it had 300 miles on it. Now have 30,000 miles. Not a hint of trouble. Also have JCW air box.
You will like a pulley. It provides a little extra zap. It also makes the auto drive normal when the air conditioner is on. MINI without pulley is a slug with AC.
With your intake and exhaust, you really should have a pulley, too! With these and a pulley, you probably will need cooler plugs. This comment may set off a debate, but this opinion is based on owning stated MINI and having raced (not with MINI) for many years and having been elbow deep into engines since a young teenager.
If I remember from reading posts here on NAM, supercharges last 100,000 miles - even with a slightly smaller pulley. There are documented stories where they broke or wore at 30,000 to 45,000 miles, but this is not supposed to occur.
You may not need injectors even with your present equipment + pulley. You'll be able to tell by reading the spark plugs, engine temp, and engine performance. If you get a chip, you may be able to program around any need for injectors.
Don't be a total horse power junkie. Spend some time and money with suspension and make a truly balanced package. These autos respond very well to a well rounded approach. Besides, an auto will be faster if you can get the power to the ground more reliably that one that breaths fire, but cannot be applied.

Forget the Shark. I had the 93 octane version and the gain was little and the ignition timing is too advanced that causes pinging/knock. You will get more HP in the -15% than the JCW -11% vs stock pulley and power comes at earlier RPM. Get RMW tune if you can. These 2 will make you
Is that your dad's Porsche? If it is, tell him that armadillo with wheels graphic is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time.
yeah...you gotta watch out for those M3's. Pick your battles wisely. I was crusin around on a dragstrip-like highway and I ran into a new M3 (V8). The dude smoked my a**.
