So, what might that translate to in performance, meaning 0-60? Are we looking at better top end or bottom response, or is it more across the board with the different modifications. I know this is vague, but I'm just trying to put it all into perspective. Namely because I want to eventually creep up to these Honda's and Acura's and see their mouths drop when some mini is kicking their butt up and down (not that racing on streets should be condoned at all because it is illegal and dangerous... right?).

Dave,

Don't you sneak up on the ricers and blow by them on the freeway. It is real pitiful the way they try to catch up, especially the wanabe's that have the big fart pipes and nothing else. Once in a while I will get owned by some guy, but it doesn't happen very often in my S.

And yes, street racing is VERY dangerous, cannot be condoned, and should never happen, ........and please don't tell my mother, please.

David

My general rule of thumb is this: People don't pass me unless I want them too. I've been lucky so far... I haven't found anybody I couldn't smoke. Of course, I'm not going to upgrade my MCS until the warranty expires. The JCW is too expensive, but the 15% pulley is tempting.

Not long when you put 15k miles on in 7 months like I just did. Not long at all!

Depends on what mods you get. As long as the pulley is one of those mods, you will have very good low end. Actually - the pulley and an ECU designed for the pulley will give you very good low end. A good exhaust, intake and header will give you good high-mid and top end. Add all of the above and you'll have great low end and unbelieveable mid range and top end. 0-60 will probably depend more on tire size, style and your ability to control wheel spin since traction will be your limiting factor here.

Torque is what translates into acceleration. Faster acceleration comes from having more area under the torque curve. Different mods help top, bottom, or both. The pulley mod creates more boost at any RPM, and thus increased torque accross the band.

Some mods come at the expense of high-end or low end torque. For example, fancy race headers usually trade some low end torque for high end torque. Makes for better horsepower numbers, but not necessarily a faster car (disclaimer-unless combined with other mods, or in race conditions, etc).

I am of the school of thought that generating more torque without making your engine spin faster is most preferable. If you go down the road of chasing horsepower, by increasing torque at the high end, or seeking a higher redline you add significantly more stress to the engine, and need to consider rebuilding engine internals to deal with the extra stress.

It's my opinion that once you exhaust simple "external" mods like pulley, intake, exhaust, and ECU retuning, you need to have the heads re-worked for better flow. Now you're about done without removing the engine, transmission or both.

Greatgro-
Only 15k?!? I am fast approaching that number. Looks like my baby will be getting the mods she wants for her birthday after all...
